At the conclusion of the OZZFEST 2001 tour, Black Sabbath took a 2 1/2 year break from live performance. The band did record material for a still unfinished studio album during this period, but members stayed busy with outside projects for the most part.

After months of speculation, it was confirmed on May 18th, 2004 that Black Sabbath would indeed headline Ozzfest 2004 over Ozzy's solo band, a reunited Judas Priest and many others. Initially, Ozzy's drummer Mike Bordin was slated to fill the drum slot due to an early disagreement during negotiations. But once all of this was ironed out, Bill Ward officially accepted his rightful place behind the drum kit. Adam Wakeman (son of YES keyboardist Rick Wakeman) madee his debut appearance playing with Black Sabbath during this tour.

After lengthy negotiations, the HEAVEN AND HELL era lineup of BLACK SABBATH decided to reform under the banner of their now legendary 1980 album in September 2006. Although they are NOT touring as BLACK SABBATH this time around, they will be performing mainly (if not exclusively) music from their albums with Ronnie James Dio. Bill Ward was originally slated to play drums, but elected not to participate once talks became more serious. Vinny Appice rejoins them once again, making this instead a MOB RULES / DEHUMANIZER era reunion!
'HEAVEN AND HELL' will be touring North America through the end of April. These gigs will be followed with a number of European festival shows in June. There is also talk of a South American tour and more U.S. dates in late summer, but none of this is confirmed as of yet. As Tony Iommi said in a recent interview, nothing is in stone here yet. However, the gig dates appear to be firming up, so please check the UNCONFIRMED link for the shows that are currently in the works.
