Known Audios - 'HEAVEN AND HELL' (THE BAND)
Date Venue City Set List Source Comments
3/10/07 REHEARSAL - Pacific Coliseum Vancouver
PRO HEAVEN & HELL professionally filmed and recorded their rehearsals for possible inclusion in a planned official live DVD. The proposed live released will mainly feature their performance at Radio City Music Hall in NYC on 3/30/07, but may include some of the rehearsals as bonus material. Some fragments from the Vancouver rehearsal has already appeared in VH1 Classic’s ‘Hanging With Heaven & Hell’ TV special, which aired on U.S. TV in March. Ronnie can be seen wearing a coat during what looks to be a rather cold evening!
3/11/07 Pacific Coliseum Vancouver Source #1 (G.B.) After All (The Dead) [joined in progress at 1st chorus] <3:47>, The Mob Rules <3:52>, Children Of The Sea <6:45>, Lady Evil <5:30>, Ear In The Wall <4:47>, I <6:21>, The Sign Of The Southern Cross [complete!] <8:51>, Voodoo <8:11>, The Devil Cried <6:48>, Vinny Appice's Drum Solo <4:20>, Computer God <6:48>, Falling Off The Edge Of The World <6:24>, Shadow Of The Wind <5:58>, Die Young <7:27>, Heaven And Hell <16:03>, E: Neon Knights <6:52> [Running time – 108:44] AUD As of March 15th, I've already come across TWO nearly complete audience sources for HEAVEN AND HELL's opening night performance in Vancouver.

Source #1 is a very good audience recording done by Gary B. This was first recording from the HEAVEN AND HELL world tour to circulate and quality wasn’t disappointing. Aside from the fact that the show was missing the introduction and is joined in progress during the first song (“After All”), I was thankful to hear this one just days after the Vancouver show had happened. Running time is 108:44.

Gary B.: “Thanks again for your continued work on Sabbathlive. That’s my Vancouver recording making the rounds. (Still can’t get used to that name ‘Heaven And Hell’.)”
“I mishandled the recorder during ‘E5150 / After All’, resulting in the loss of that first portion. I was utterly baked (for the first time in YEARS), so my wife held the recorder from that point on, to prevent any more fumbles on my part. She’s the greatest woman in the world (and was even greater later that night), but she didn’t position the recorder properly, and that’s why the left channel is much louder than the right. I of course haven’t mentioned this to her, although in our younger days I probably would’ve been small enough to reproach her about it. But anyway, that’s why the audio is unbalanced.”

“Also, my upload to the Purple Hub seemed to generate some digital noises that aren’t on the original recording. But I’ve been doing so much overtime at work lately (Boeing 787 supplier) that I haven’t had time to really sit down with my recorder’s manual and figure out the optimal way to upload. So, at some point later this year I might re-post a superior version. (And stay tuned for my Portland and Seattle recordings! One of my connections at the Purple Hub got backstage in Vancouver, and was assured by Ronnie that the band would indeed revisit the Northwest by tour’s end!)”

Source #2 is a nearly excellent recording of the complete show from an audience video source done by Dr. J. Running time is 113:16. For more background on the Dr. J. audience video, read the Known Videos List.

I'm sure there will also be many excerpts recorded by cell phones and other handheld devices throughout this tour. For the sake of simplicity (and my sanity), I will only list these excerpts IF there are no known complete sources for a given show. The main purpose of this known audios listing is to help people reference available examples for each concert. If a fairly complete recording has been done, than a 2 minute fragment of any given song becomes irrelevant for our purposes.
3/13/07 Rexall Place Edmonton Complete Show Set List: Intro-E5150, After All (The Dead), The Mob Rules, Children Of The Sea, Lady Evil, Ear In The Wall, I, The Sign Of The Southern Cross, Voodoo, The Devil Cried, Vinny Appice's Drum Solo, Computer God, Falling Off The Edge Of The World, Shadow Of The Wind, Die Young, Heaven And Hell, E: Lonely Is The Word, Neon Knights

Dumbmegacunt Source: Intro-E5150 -> After All (The Dead) [8:03], The Mob Rules [4:11], Children Of The Sea, Ear In The Wall, The Sign Of The Southern Cross [8:03], The Devil Cried [6:45], Lonely Is The Word [7:01], Neon Knights [5:14]
AUD Eight songs from the Edmonton show were posted on YouTube on March 14th by the filmer Dumbmegacunt. Although at first I thought these clips might just be teaser fragments, they are in fact complete songs!! I’m not yet certain whether these clips are all of the footage that was done or just the samples the filmer managed to post. The sound quality is VG considering that the audio has been compressed to just 64 kbps. Still, very clear and worthwhile to hear. The complete running time for this source is 49:36.

For more on the YouTube clips, read my review on the Known Videos List.
3/14/07 Saddledome Calgary Complete Show Set List: Intro-E5150, After All (The Dead), The Mob Rules, Children Of The Sea, Lady Evil, Ear In The Wall, I, The Sign Of The Southern Cross, Voodoo, The Devil Cried, Vinny Appice's Drum Solo, Computer God, Falling Off The Edge Of The World, Shadow Of The Wind, Die Young, Heaven And Hell, E: Lonely Is The Word, Neon Knights

YouTube Video Clips: Intro-E5150, After All (The Dead) [has cuts] <6:14>, The Mob Rules [joined in progress] <3:02>, Children Of The Sea <5:58>, Ear In The Wall [joined in progress] <3:41>, Voodoo <6:18>, Vinnie Appice’s Drum Solo [joined in progress] <2:57>, Die Young (with Iommi solo intro) <4:19>, Heaven And Hell [incomplete] <3:02>

Audio source: Intro-E5150, After All (The Dead), The Mob Rules, Ear In The Wall [incomplete], I [incomplete], The Sign Of The Southern Cross [incomplete], Voodoo [incomplete], Vinny Appice's Drum Solo, Die Young, Heaven And Hell, Neon Knights
AUD Several possible sources including 2 incomplete audience videos (which are currently on YouTube) and an incomplete audience audio recording. I’m still in the process of trying to gather more information on the audience audio source. This would be a great show to find a more COMPLETE recording for as it featured two songs that would quickly be dropped from the set list – “Ear In The Wall” and “Lonely Is The Word”.
3/18/07 MTS Centre Winnipeg Complete Show Set List: Intro-E5150, After All (The Dead), The Mob Rules, Children Of The Sea, Lady Evil, I, The Sign Of The Southern Cross, Voodoo, The Devil Cried, Vinny Appice's Drum Solo, Computer God, Shadow Of The Wind, Die Young, Heaven And Hell (extended), E: Neon Knights AUD I've received at least one report of an alleged audio recording for this show. One alleged fan CD-R of this show (recorded by Dumbmegacunt) includes the songs “Ear In The Wall” and “Lonely Is The World”, both which were reportedly NOT performed in Winnipeg. Still under investigation.
3/20/07 Steelback Centre Sault St. Marie Analog Audience Source by D.R.: Intro-E5150 <2:08>, After All (The Dead) <5:52>, The Mob Rules <4:15>, Children Of The Sea <6:55>, Lady Evil <5:25>, I <5:48>, The Sign Of The Southern Cross <7:57>, Voodoo <7:52>, The Devil Cried <7:12>, Vinny Appice's Drum Solo <4:26>, Computer God <6:05>, Falling Off The Edge Of The World <5:34>, Shadow Of The Wind <6:15>, Die Young <6:59>, Heaven And Hell <12:58>, E: Neon Knights [from source #1] <5:36>, End Of Show <1:02> [Running Time – 103:25] AUD Three audience sources for this one. Sources #1 and #2 are from the same taper (D.R.). Source #1 is a complete analog (cassette) recording of good quality in mono. D.R. used a General Electric 3-5364a deck with internal microphones. Clear sound with occasional level distortion. Due to the lack of midrange and bass, this tape sounds comparable to an AM radio broadcast. There are two tape flips – after “Voodoo” and “Die Young” – but only about 20-30 seconds appears to be missing from the show. This source was posted at www.thetradersden.org on May 12th, 2007.

Source #1 Lineage: Line in-> Audacity Audio Recorder-> WAV -> CDR(M) -> EAC(secure) -> WAV -> Hub Audio Tools(track/Align) -> WAV -> FLAC(lvl8)

Source #2 is the audio soundtrack of D.R.’s incomplete audience film. The sound is fair to good stereo with some of the same type of level distortion problems encountered in source #1. There is a cut after Vinny’s Drum Solo and “Computer God” is completely missing. Also missing is the first part of “After All”.

Source #3 was recorded by Little Syd with an analog deck. He mentions this in the thetradersden.org forum for the source #1 post on May 12th, 2007.

Little Syd: “Thank you kindly for this particular source. I too recorded at this show with an analogue recorder. I stood 25 ft off Iommi beside 4 cops. There is no or very little chatter on my tapes – lol. Unfortunately with 4 songs left. About 25 more officers came and entered the venue beside me to prepare to disperse the crowd. When this disturbance presented itself, my mic was bumped a number of times through those tracks and I've been trying to spectral clean the audio to an acceptable listen. My source will appear sometime, but it may be awhile.”

Little Syd also wrote to Sabbathlive on June 5th with these additional comments:

Little Syd: “I can confirm as per your 2007 Heaven and Hell audio list that indeed another source exists for the Steelback Centre. I've done a bit of work to my raw rip of the tapes but still am not quite happy with sharing the recording ''widely'' in this raw form. My recording rig is a Sony Wm Gx221 using a Ecm ds30p mic. I also taped the Toronto performance which came off sounding quite distant as I was sitting at the far end dead centre.”
3/22/07 Air Canada Centre Toronto Source 1 (Taurus): Intro-E5150 <2:17>, After All (The Dead) <5:57> (cut @ 0:17), The Mob Rules <4:19>, Children of the Sea <6:51>, Lady Evil <4:59>, I <6:52>, The Sign of the Southern Cross <8:27>, Voodoo <7:28>, The Devil Cried <6:51>, Vinnie Appice's Drum Solo <3:48>, Computer God <6:59>, Falling Off the Edge of the World <5:56>, Shadow Of The Wind <5:52>, Die Young <7:36>, Heaven & Hell <13:20>, Intermission <1:45>, E: Neon Knights <6:18> [Running time – 115:35]

Source 2 (Burn Boy): ): Intro-E5150 -> After All (The Dead) <7:48>, The Mob Rules <4:15>, Children of the Sea <6:50>, Lady Evil <5:09>, I <6:51>, The Sign of the Southern Cross <8:27>, Voodoo <7:27>, The Devil Cried <6:51>, Vinnie Appice's Drum Solo <3:54>, Computer God <6:53>, Falling Off the Edge of the World <5:58>, Shadow Of The Wind <5:46>, Die Young <7:40>, Heaven & Hell <12:54>, Intermission <2:37>, E: Neon Knights <5:27> [Running time – 104:37]
AUD Four complete audience sources so far, two of which were posted on Dimeadozen.org recently.

Audio source #1 is a mostly complete recording of excellent quality! Aside from a small cut near the beginning of “After All” and a slightly boomy bass response, this is one of the better recordings I’ve heard from the Canadian tour. Taurus used an Edirol R-09 unit, which is a 24-bit WAV recorder that stores the music on an SD memory card. The quality is comparable to DAT, but doesn’t use tape!

Notes on Source 1 by Taurus (the taper):

Lineage: Edirol R-09 (w/internal mics low sensitivity setting) > Sandisk sd card> wav files sample rate 44.1k 16-bit>transfer to HD via USB cable>Adobe Audition 1.5 to split tracks>FLAC frontend level 8>you

Comments by Taurus: “First time with new recording gear so there are hiccups. Initial recording level set too high, so I tried to adjust while recording but that didn't seem to work so I stopped the recording and re-adjusted, cutting a few seconds of “After All”. It's an annoying cut, sorry about that, but it's just a few seconds. My location was on Tony's side, about 15 feet away from the PA. A bit close but I was with my brother who never had seen Dio before and he wanted optimum sight lines (that's another story). Still turned out alright in my opinion, you may want to tinker with some bass reduction but I left everything as is. This is the entire H&H set minus the 4-5 seconds I missed from “After All”. Bummer that we didn't get “Lonely is the Word”, but a good show nonetheless.”

Audio source #2 is also an excellent audience recording, but a slightly more complete one. In contrast to Taurus’ recording, BurnBoy’s has a different EQ – clear, with more treble. It doesn’t have the rich booming bass of source #1, but it’s still quite nice in its own right. There are some minor volume fluctuations when the taper is moving around, but nothing too unnerving.

Source 2 by Burnboy:

Lineage: Core Sound Cardioids > Sound professionals pre-Amp > Gmini 402 > PC >
Sound forge 7 and CDWAV for edits etc. Recorded 16-48000 , reduced to 16-44,100 for CD burning. Recorded and Processed by BurnBoy.

Source 3 was recording by PS with a Sony MiniDisc recorder. More details are forthcoming on this one.

Source 4 was recorded by Little Syd, who also recorded the Sault Saint Marie show on March 20th. He wrote to Sabbathlive with the following information:

Little Syd: “My recording rig is a Sony Wm Gx221 using a Ecm ds30p mic. I also taped the Toronto performance which came off sounding quite distant as I was sitting at the far end dead centre.”

Which Toronto 2007 source has the best sound?? Personally, I think it’s pretty much a toss-up between Taurus and BurnBoy at the moment, who should probably share the honors for best Canadian tour recording. Everyone is going to have their own personal preference about whether they like the richer (and boomier) bass of Taurus’ recording or the clearer, brighter sounding BurnBoy source. Regardless, at least we have TWO excellent recordings to add to our collections, thanks to these guys!
3/24/07 John Labatt Centre London Source #2 (Bobby Plant MD): Intro-E5150 <1:49>, After All (The Dead) <7:15>, The Mob Rules <4:10>, Children Of The Sea <6:46>, Lady Evil <5:01>, I, The Sign Of The Southern Cross <6:49>, Voodoo <7:34>, The Devil Cried -> Vinny Appice’s Drum Solo <10:52>, Computer God <7:02>, Falling Off The Edge Of The World <5:45>, Shadow Of The Wind <6:12>, Die Young <7:26>, Heaven And Hell <13:31>, Intermission <1:42> E: Neon Knights <6:46> [Running Time – 107:35] AUD I'm aware of three sources for the London show right now. Source #1 is the audio portion of a fragmentary audience video that was circulated on Dimeadozen.org. Sources #2 is a complete Sony MZ-RH10 MiniDisc recording that was also posted on Dimeadozen.org by the taper (Bobby Plant) on March 27th, 2007. Source #3 is a DAT recording, also done by Bobby Plant. Bobby did not record the opening sets by Down or Megadeth.

Bobby Plant: "Just thought of you as I taped Heaven and Hell in London on Saturday. My DAT recording was recording sounded distorted as I probably need to change the mic battery. But I did make a decent MD recording. It’s a little muffled in the beginning, but this clears up after a few minutes.”

Overall, Bobby’s MiniDisc recording is of very good to excellent quality. The frequency response is pretty well balanced and there is no annoying distortions or buzzing to distract from the music. If he were sitting a bit closer, he might have had as good a recording as the two Toronto sources by Taurus and Burnboy. As Bobby noted in his comments, the microphone gets muffled at the beginning of the show. It also happens again at the beginning of “Heaven And Hell”, but only briefly.

While this London source might not have the pizzazz of the Toronto recordings, it is ‘at least’ a very good audience recording. The set list for the London show lacked performances of “Ear In The Wall” and “Lonely Is The Word”, which popped up at several Canadian shows.
3/26/07 Bell Centre Montreal Michael B source: Intro-E5150 <2:16> After All (The Dead) <6:48>, The Mob Rules <3:50>, Children Of The Sea <6:50>, Lady Evil <4:59>, I <6:41>, The Sign Of The Southern Cross <9:28>, Voodoo <7:54>, The Devil Cried <7:08>, Vinny Appice’s Drum Solo <4:40>, Computer God <7:04>, Falling Off The Edge Of The World <6:07>, Shadow Of The Wind <6:02>, Die Young <7:37>, Heaven And Hell -> Intermission <16:39>, E: Neon Knights <5:58> [RT – 110:06] AUD Three confirmed sources for Montreal 2007.

Source #1 is the audio portion of a confirmed audience video. More on that soon.

Source #2 is a very good audience MiniDisc recording done by Michael B. Ronnie’s vocals are nice and clear on Michael’s source. The only off-the-cuff criticism I have about the sound is that Vinny’s kick drum really dominates the low-end. There is some occasional digital noise that occurs during a few peak moments, but it’s really not that noticeable overall.

Michael B. “I recorded this using my Sony Minidisc MZ-N707 with a Sony microphone. My friends and I were sitting about center ice and about halfway up in the arena. The recording is complete and very clear, although I did tweak the sound to try and make it sound brighter. The original recording sounded a tad flat (especially Vinny's drums). For some reason, the sound for Megadeth was clearer and less muddy than for Sabbath. Also, there is some occasional digital noise, mostly during Dio's vocals. It's not my best recording at the Bell Center, but it's a strong 7.5 on 10. I also recorded the full Megadeth show.

“In terms of the show, I could not have been happier to see this line-up again and hear these songs again. It had been 15 long years since the DEHUMANIZER tour, and hearing “Sign Of The Southern Cross”, “Lady Evil” and “Falling Off The Edge Of The World” for the first time live made my day. As much as I like Ozzy, my heart wishes this line-up stays together and makes another studio album.”

Source #3 was recorded by MaidenNH. He posted his source on www.dimeadozen.org on June 13th, 2007. The show is nearly complete with brief tape flips after “Voodoo” and in the middle of “Heaven And Hell”.

Source #3 Lineage: Sony ECM-DS70P > RS 42-2559 > Sony WM-D6C > TDK DS-X90(2) > MBOX > Pro Tools > Soundstudio 2.2.4 > aiff > xAct > flac
4/22/07 Dodge Theatre Phoenix Intro-E5150, After All (The Dead), The Mob Rules, Children Of The Sea, Lady Evil, I, The Sign Of The Southern Cross, Voodoo, The Devil Cried, Vinny Appice's Drum Solo, Computer God, Falling Off The Edge Of The World, Shadow Of The Wind, Die Young, Heaven And Hell, E: Neon Knights AUD Desert Rat posted his audience recording of the show on thetradersden.org on April 28th, 2007. Nearly excellent audience recording, which is possibly one of the best I’ve heard for the tour through May 4th. While there are some minor flaws (level adjustments and minor distortions), this is a very clear recording that doesn’t sound too distant. Nice booming bass response and a crisp high end.

This was the official start for the 1st leg of their U.S. tour. While the NYC show was truly their first American gig, it was done at the close of their Canadian tour. The set list for most of beginning of the U.S. tour has remained fairly static, with “Ear In The Wall” getting dropped and “Lonely Is The Word” only getting played as an encore on occasion.

AUD Two known audience sources for San Jose 4/24/2007. Source #1 was done by Mark and is a nearly excellent audience recording done with a Sony D-3. It’s not as complete as source #2 (cuts in “After All”, Vinny’s drum solo & no intermission), but is superior in terms of overall sound quality and fidelity. Nicer high-end frequency response with excellent clarity!

Mark: "Just wanted to let you know audio exists of the San Jose 4/24/07 show. I did it on a D-3, unfortunately the old girl needs a tune up and I had to wrestle with it to get it to record and I missed a 1-2 minute section of "After All." The rest of the show is complete sans for a few seconds of Vinnie's drum solo as I flipped my tape. Overall. not a bad recording. I was about 15 feet in front of Geezer as I recorded. No "Ear" or “Lonely" were played that night.”

Source #2 was posted by Kevin E. (Keyd) at www.dimeadozen.org on May 12th, 2007. It is a very good audience recording. The running time is 110:43. Kevin was very critical of his own recording (as you will read in the comments below), but I think it turned out quite well despite some minor shortcomings (a little low end rumble and some very minor level distortion). Otherwise, I’d say this one is clear and very enjoyable.

Tapers Comments by Kevin E (Keyd): “I am the guy who taped the Heaven and Hell San Jose show that was put on Dimeadozen yesterday morning. A few notes...”

”It was tough recording this. A bunch of idiots were around me spilling, smashing, and falling on each other. Luckily, there are not many annoying crowd noises on the recording, if any. No Beavis and Butthead sing-along’s, and no screaming or whistling directly into the mics. Also, the security line was less than 10 feet from me and they were busting people for everything, even when people weren't doing anything wrong.”

“Needless to say, I didn't want them to see my recorder which was right at their eye line level just behind my sweatshirt. I was probably 30 yards away from the stage on Tony's side. My mics pointed at front center stage close to 45 degree angle. Because I couldn't set or change the levels because of the problems stated above, there are a few problems with the recording.”

”Honestly, I think the Chicago recording is the best recording for the tour so far. It was interesting that I looked at your page and you stated what I thought before coming to your site. Actually, there was only one place (at the end of “Neon Knights”) where the meters (on the zoom and in Pro Tools) said the recording was distorted. I was surprised because it sounded to me as if there were other parts that were distorted. I would still say that there are parts that sound like they have some minor distortion. I turned the levels down a bit and did minor EQ in Pro Tools before torrenting to Dime.”

”I hope you still like the recording. I do. I think it is closer to the better recordings than the worst recordings, even though I wanted to do better. I was itching to check and adjust the levels many times and security would run by me and bust someone for something. I should have just done it. Oh well, having it is better than if they confiscated it. I haven't seen any other versions of this show and I would have been bummed if I wasn't able to hear this great performance that I attended. I hope to see this band again when they return to the US and maybe get a really super-high quality recording. I might go a few more times if I can.”
4/25/07 The Forum Inglewood (Los Angeles) Intro-E5150, After All (The Dead), The Mob Rules, Children Of The Sea, Lady Evil, I, The Sign Of The Southern Cross, Voodoo, The Devil Cried, Vinny Appice's Drum Solo, Computer God, Falling Off The Edge Of The World, Shadow Of The Wind, Die Young, Heaven And Hell, E: Neon Knights AUD Very good to nearly excellent DAT audience recording that is comparable to the Phoenix show in quality. This one was posted by the taper (ijwthstd) at Dimeadozen.org on April 28th, 2007. While this is a really nice recording overall, the DAT recorder did malfunction a few times causing some minor glitches or 'digi-noise' during "FOTEOTW", "SOTW" and most notably in "Die Young", where there are several dropouts.
IJWTHSD: "Diginoise - it's a certain type of distortion; the sound is unique to DAT tapes as far as I know. Sometimes if the tape plays bad in one deck, it will play fine in the record deck as it's usually caused by a drive problem or maybe heads out of alignment on the recorder. Since it played bad on both decks and for only 3 songs I think it's a blank tape problem."

"Not only was security lax inside, it was the most incompetent crowd control I have ever seen. The stairs to the floor were located between Loge 7 and 8 yet people were being directed to between 8 and 9, then they would just cut over through the seats to the stairs. Right when H&H started, there was a horrible bottleneck all the way up to the top that finally got one security supervisors attention. I wish I had a camera so I could send pictures of people packed in on the stairs to the fire marshal. I really should have found one of the guys with a headset but I didn't feel comfortable approaching security under the circumstances. Maybe the show was adequately staffed based on presales but there were more walk ups than expected? At least there were no major problems but I saw the potential."

4/26/07 Coors Amphitheatre Chula Vista (El Cajon) Intro-E5150, After All (The Dead), The Mob Rules, Children Of The Sea, Lady Evil, I, The Sign Of The Southern Cross, Voodoo, The Devil Cried, Vinny Appice's Drum Solo, Computer God, Falling Off The Edge Of The World, Shadow Of The Wind, Die Young, Heaven And Hell, E: Neon Knights (Also: Bootlegger's Notes) AUD Jump In The Fire posted his audience recording of the El Cajon show on thepiratebay.org on April 30th, 2007. In addition, he also posted his recordings of the opening acts, Megadeth and Machine Head. All of these recordings were sadly compressed to MP3, but I am still thankful he took the time to share these. The following information is from the notes he posted with the Heaven & Hell torrent. I'd rate the sound quality as VG to Excellent. While it may not have the expanded frequency range of the Phoenix recording, it was recording from a closer vantage point so the band has a bit more presence. The negative points of this one are probably some occasional intrusions from the audience (loud clapping and singing), but this is really just nit-picking. I'm fairly impressed with the quality of the U.S. offerings overall so far.

RECORDING INFO: Sony Hi-MD MZ-M10. Recorded at "Hi-SP" (256 kb/s) in order to tape all 3 bands. Transfered to computer as 256 bitrate mp3. Taped from Section 102, Row Q, Seat 6.

Bootleg Comments by Jump In The Fire: "An awesome show by all 3 bands (Machine Head, Megadeth, Heaven & Hell). Incredible show. Tony Iommi is the man, what else is there to say? There was about 5 or so different banners that people threw up onto the stage throughout the concert and gave to Ronnie in which you can sometimes hear him talking about. At the very end of the show, right after "Neon Knights" is finished playing, some guy gets on stage and goes up and hugs Tony Iommi, Ronnie James Dio & Geezer Butler before a security guard completely swallows him whole and drags him off the stage lol. El Cajon is a suburb of San Diego."

Bootleg Proof Comments:
At 6:00 on "After All" Ronnie James Dio says "This must be San Diego!"
At 15:41 on "Heaven & Hell" Ronnie James Dio says "Cheers San Diego"

Two video sources were done by Dr. J. and his three person audience video crew, so this gives us a total of three possible audio sources for the Bloomfield show.

Dr. J..: “I'm still recovering from last night, as we saw Sabbath here in Denver (actually, it was in Broomfield, just north of Denver proper). Great show! Same set as they've been playing - no “Lonely is the Word”, no “Ear in the Wall”. There are TWO complete audience films of this show - my friend Brian and I each had a camera. With a bit of
support from my wife Lori (who shot three complete songs herself), we filmed the entire show with the idea of trying to edit a 2-cam video from it. Brian's video is all medium and long range stuff - our camera is all close-ups. All of us were sitting in the very last row, dead center (pretty much exactly as in Vancouver), Brian was one seat over from us. The venue is not particularly big - even where we were sitting, the stage was reasonably close. Not a tremendous crowd - maybe half full in a place that I heard seats in the 5,000 range. One point I would make is that the “Heaven And Hell” (the song) jam section, Iommi, Butler and Appice played a completely different solo from the one we saw in Vancouver, with an almost jazz-like improv vibe to it - very cool!”
5/1/07 Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre San Antonio Intro-E5150, After All (The Dead), The Mob Rules, Children Of The Sea, Lady Evil, I, The Sign Of The Southern Cross, Voodoo, The Devil Cried, Vinny Appice's Drum Solo, Computer God, Falling Off The Edge Of The World, Shadow Of The Wind, Die Young, Heaven And Hell, E: Neon Knights AUD
5/207 Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in the Woodlands Houston
AUD Mark E.: “When H&H came to Houston, I brought an H4 recorder and made a digital audio bootleg of the show. It really sounds great with all of it there. Not like a taped recording in the past, this one has bass and the H4 worked great!”

“I have transferred the recording onto 2 CD's and did the recording myself. It covers covering the concert in its entirety, no breaks in recording, no blunders. I did this on an H4 recorder by Samson - a wonderful unit that is hand held. With a 1GB sound card I have over 17hrs record time. This unit is a 4 track recorder to boot! It does "tape" in MP3 file - stereo as well. I might sound like a salesman or something but I do trust in this unit and have gotten excellent results.”

“I set the levels during Megadeth and started recording 15 min before the Sabs came on.
I thought maybe they would start “E5150” early, like during the intermission and didn't want to miss a second of it. No deal, typical concert start - boring. You know, if the band really thought about it, they could have made this a really mystical event. For example, they could have dragged out “Sign Of The Southern Cross”, actually PLAYED “E5150”, or told the entire story of “Heaven And Hell during the song (and not got the verses in reverse – you’ll hear this on my recording). At the end of “Heaven And Hell”, Tony could have played the instrumental piece on a electric mandolin.”

“Now I'm not bitching or anything. I wouldn't have missed this for the world. It's one of the reasons I got the H4 in the 1st place, but being older and all, watching the whole thing, a lot of people were searching for yesteryear (as was I) and found it a little short in coming. Wouldn't miss it again, that's for sure.”
5/3/07 Nokia Theater Grand Prairie (Dallas) Intro-E5150, After All (The Dead), The Mob Rules, Children Of The Sea, Lady Evil, I, The Sign Of The Southern Cross, Voodoo, The Devil Cried, Vinny Appice's Drum Solo, Computer God, Falling Off The Edge Of The World, Shadow Of The Wind, Die Young, Heaven And Hell, E: Neon Knights AUD Very good audience recording of complete show. If not for the boomy low-end, I’d probably nudge this one up to VG+. The loud bass frequencies cause some minor distortions and cause the overall sound to be slightly muddy. Still – quite worthwhile and enjoyable to hear. This was posted as a torrent on Dimeadozen.org on May 5th.

Taper notes: “Pretty good recording of a pretty nice show -- no real surprises judging by previous setlists from the tour. Figured the show would be loud, so I "pre-set guessed" the recording level beforehand rather than just going with the mic-sensitivity setting,
kinda hoping it would be good enough. Seems to have worked. It still a bit muddy in spots, but it's a true reflection of what I was hearing and quite in-your-face. You'll hear some buzzing once in a while, but that was coming from Tony Iommi's guitar, not the source. There was very little interference from the crowd around me, so I was quite pleased with the result. Glad to see RJD singing with the Sab boys again, my first time to see them together since 1981.”

joeyjay notes: “Mike did a pretty fair job, considering it was the first time he took away the safety blanket of "auto recording level" to make sure his rigging didn't get blown out. I did have to de-hiss it a bit because of the lowered setting, and it's still got some muddy
low end, but I'd say this is a worthy tour document from the Dallas-area stop. You might need to crank it up. Enjoy. On with the show ...”

AUD There are at least SIX known sources for Chicago 2007 and very likely MORE based upon how many tapers showed up for Black Sabbath’s last visit there in 2005. This is a very good thing based on how great a performance the band turned out that night.

Audience source #1 is an excellent DAT audience recording of the complete show, done by Jerry B. (a.k.a.“The Guv’nor)! Jerry B. has done a number of great Black Sabbath recordings over the past decade or more. His past work includes Cincinnati 10/20/92, Indianapolis 10/23/92, Chicago 7/30/2005, Antioch (Nashville) 8/31/2005 and a few more as well.

Jerry B. posted his show on thetradersden.org on May 7th, 2007 with the following comments.

Jerry B. (Taper’s Comments): “Hey everybody! I know there will be some happy people out there as there seems to be a lack of Heaven And Hell shows out there! I had decided to fly up to Chicago to see the May 5th stop at the Allstate Arena (a.k.a. "The Rosemont Horizon") even though I'm sure other tapers was going to do it as Chicago seems to be well covered by bootleggers! Much thanks has to go to my good friends from The Megadeth message board who always take good care of me when I visit for a show and haul my ass around even if they are not going to the show (it was their assistance that made it possible to tape the April 15th show of Iggy & The Stooges @ Congress Hall!) so a big round of applause must go to Tony, Rich, Dan and Tiff for everything they do to help me out on the road!”

“Usually I don't like buying "pre-sale" tickets as they seem to be shitty seats......however I was extremely happy with where my seats were (Sec 2 Row 11 seat 24 directly in line with the hanging speakers on Geezer's side of the stage) and the sound was INCREDIBLE as this torrent will prove! I did tape all three bands and will post them when time allows, as I have 3 more Heaven And Hell gigs to do this week!”

Jerry’s source for Chicago was my favorite recording of H&H live in 2007 for a while and is certainly near the top of my list now. The band has a much better presence here and doesn’t sound distant as they often do in other fan made recordings. The sound mix is very well balanced and you can key in on each band member with ease.

During my first listen to Jerry’s Chicago 2007 recording, I noticed a very slight bit of distortion around the edges of the music. In my first review of the recording, I had commented that the recording levels may have been set just a hair too high. My ears weren’t fooling me, but Jerry assured me that this problem doesn’t exist on the original master DAT.

Jerry B.: “Actually Rob.........the high recording levels you are speaking of is not on my DAT master....it is from my stand alone CD-R burner as it does not have an adjustable recording levels; it has pre-set levels and I burnt that show at the highest level before I noticed that it was "Too Hot To Handle”. Since it was not overly distorted, I posted it anyway as I was really tired after my flight back from Chicago and was not feeling up to burning it again. Maybe at a later date I will re-do it and post it at the "other" website with the lower levels but for now enjoy it for what it is!”

Once you accept that one minor shortcoming, it’s a real gem of a recording – 9 out 10 in my opinion. Once I do get to hear the “real deal”, it’ll more than likely get bumped up to a perfect 10.

Audience source #2 was done by Kipco. He shared the following details about his recording with Sabbathlive just days after recording the show.

Kipco: “Just reporting in as I recorded the Chicago Heaven And Hell show. There will be others, but I thought I would provide the specifics on my version nonetheless.”

“Show date is May 5th, 2007. Opening acts were Machine Head and Megadeth. I did not tape either opening act. I was in Section one, row 5, seat 14, approximately 10 yards directly in front of Tony. Recording quality of my show is excellent! It would be a worthy candidate for "best recording of the tour so far", except there are a few phased sounding spots as the clods in front of me kept standing on their seats blocking my view and microphone. You know that wonderful sound you get when someone or something gets between your mic and the band! You can actually hear me telling one of them to sit down just before "I".”

“Plus, it seemed like at least once every few songs, someone had to pass in front of me, usually some short fat sweaty guy and I had to lean way back to let him by, which produced some of the more noticeable phasey parts. Luckily, these moments are brief and many of them you would never even notice unless you are listening in headphones. Perhaps I'm being too picky, as I have heard much worse audio problems than the ones that inhabit this recording. It's just frustrating to know that this recording could have been so much better if I hadn't had a bunch of idiots in front of me. (I got my revenge, however...after they left, I found two hand thrown Iommi guitar picks on the floor right in front of their seats!)”

“The show was recorded on a Sony Mini Disc recorder, model MZ-R-700 with an Audio Technica Pro-24 microphone. Record setting was at 80min mode. I switched discs during the drum solo. Even though I was very close to the stage, my mic did a good job of sorting out the information and gave me a beautiful balance of instruments and vocals. The cymbals have a nice clear ring, the guitar is awesome as always and you can actually hear Geezer's bass clearly as well. My recording of the song "Heaven And Hell" from this show is truly amazing. It's almost releasable! Tony stretched out fabulously on his solo, mixing in some jazzy scales and runs as well.”

Kipco’s version may actually be THE BEST source for Chicago 2007 (and the U.S. tour), based on a quick cross comparison with Jerry’s source #1. However, he has elected not to distribute his version as widely at this time. I will try to do a more thorough review of source #2 soon, but it is my current favorite source for Chicago 2007 at this time.

Audience sources #3 & 4 were mentioned to me by Ron M.

“H&H in Chicago was great. My buddy & myself both recorded it, came out average. Great show though. I hope they make a second swing by this part of the country.”

Heaven & Hell’s Chicago performance finds the band now falling into a more polished groove. The entire band was ON and playing we a greater sense of ease and fluidity than they had been during the earlier shows in the tour. Ronnie is great form here and Iommi plays some really burning solos (“I” for example). Ronnie acknowledges the good vibes during his intro for “The Mob Rules”.

“Bloody hell, this must be Chicago. You can always tell you know… Well thank you very, very much, it’s so great to be back with you again. One of our favorite places on the face of the earth.”

Audience source #5 is a very good digital audience recording done by Ted M. with an Edirol. It is nearly complete and is missing only a sliver near the beginning of “The Devil Cried”. Ted’s recording is very smooth and clear with only a few minor annoyances (such as occasional talking from the audience members near the microphone). Ted M. wasn’t recording from as close a vantage point as Jerry was (source #1), thus his recording sounds a bit more removed from the action on stage. Some additional volume boosting might help some, as these tracks were mastered a bit low (approximately 40% of peak volume).

Ted M.: “I saw the H&H show here in Chicago earlier this month. I can only say that it was one of the best concerts I have been to ever. The other that comes close would be Sabbath in 1982 2nd row, the last show with Dio. I did get a chance to record it as well as Megadeth’s set. The H&H came out better as they had the full sound system to use. I’m new at the recording thing but I think it came out pretty good.”

“One other thing about my source, during the beginning of “The Devil Cried”, I accidentally hit stop so about two seconds is missing. You will hear that just before Ronnie starts singing. All in all, a very minor glitch.”

Source #5 Lineage Info: Edirol R-09 > 4BG Sandisk memory card using the onboard stereo mics, low mic gain on, low cut on, input level @ 14-15, 16bit @44.1hz, seat section 101, row B seat 7, that's about 40 rows back to the right of the stage elevated > computer via USB> Soundforge 5 to process volume 160% > CDWAV to split tracks > Roxio Platinum > Plextor PX 755A CD/DVD burner > Taiyo Yuden CDR.

Source #6 was recorded by Nick J.

Nick J.: “Taped from Section 3, Row 14, Seat 15. I hadn't taped at Allstate Arena before and was wondering what security would be like. Well, it turns out, there was no security...well, at least no pat downs. Taping went well, the recording turned out good.”

“Initially I thought recording was going to pointless. I had two drunk, obnoxious women next to me, one of which of was loud and kept jumping around, bumping into me. This woman even warned me that she liked to jump around and scream & yell! She wasn't lying. Once the intro tape rolled, she was off. Early in the recording you can hear her apologize for elbowing me in the face! But a few minutes later a couple came down our isle and stopped right in front of these two women. They stood there looking confused for a moment and then moved on. Turns out these two women were in their seats! Yes! They came back a few minutes later with an usher, who asked the women for their tickets, and booted them out. My new neighbors were quiet and low key. So I had no issues the rest of the night.”

“As for the show itself, I thought it was good. I felt the show moved along a little too slowly at times. The stage set was awesome though. And I still say they stretch out “Heaven & Hell” too long. I know I might be in the minority there, but I think they wander too far away from the actual song. But, anyway, I will definitely see them again if they come through the Chicago area this fall.”

Source #1 is a VG+ DAT audience recording of complete show done by Jerry B. (a.k.a. ‘The Gov’ner), who has also recorded several other stops on this tour. He posted his recording on www.thetradersden.org on May 9th with the following comments:

Jerry B.: “Hey Everybody! Just as this is just "Black Sabbath" with Ronnie James Dio on vocals this show is from what is known in Cincinnati as "Riverfront Coliseum" where 11 people died at a Who concert in December 1979. I would make a few off-color jokes about it but since I have met people who are still angry that they have lost friends at that gig I will not. Another great sounding show due to the size of the crowd (about 60% to 70% capacity by my estimates) which is good for the taper but bad for the band. I can only hope it is because of the quickness that these dates were added on between the Canadian & Europe 2007 tour dates and the promise of a summer or fall return. I can only hope that it will also mean they hit the smaller markets (like Knoxville or Dayton and other 9,000 capacity venues) that many bands seem to miss nowadays with the "shed" circuit.”

“A big "Hello" to all my Ohio friends that I was able to chat to at the show. This is the reason why I'm rushing on posting this show. I also saw 2 other tapers at the gig so by all means seek them out too if you are a Sabbath completist as they both was in different parts of the arena. It looks like this tour will be represented very well with many bootlegs of most of the shows being taped! THAT says volumes of how much this tour is being anticipated by the Black Sabbath fans who are tired & bored with the same old set list that the Ozzy lineup brings....and it doesn't hurt that the set is almost 2 hours long too!”

“Listen to "Neon Knights" and you will see why I called it "Neon Tits!"”

While Jerry’s source isn’t quite as good as his Chicago 2007, it isn’t too far below it in overall quality. The main difference between the two seems to be that he was recording from a better vantage point in Chicago. On the Chicago recording, you can hear each member of the band very clearly in the mix. The Cincinnati recording is very clear and enjoyable, but also more distant. Geezer and Vinny aren’t quite as prominent in the mix either. With a better seat and a little bit more bass, this easily could have been an excellent recording.

Two different versions of source #1 were posted at Dimeadozen.org on May 11th, 2007. In addition to the usual CD audio version, the taper has very generously offered a 24 bit DVD audio version of his DAT recording as well! I believe this is the first Sabbath live bootleg that I’ve come across in this format and it’s a trend I’d love to see continue. Now that the technology is more readily available, it would be nice if the Sabbath DAT tapers would revisit their masters for a new high definition transfer? Just a nice thought!

AUD We now have THREE audience sources for this show, thanks to Grin02, Jerry B. and Pat S.

Source #1 (recorded by Grin02) is a fair to good quality mono audience recording with a few minor cuts. This could have been a better recording if not some minor to moderate distortion issues. The most distracting aspect of source #1 is that the volume wavers in short, but constant bursts when the volume peaks.

Grin02 posted his recording of the Cleveland 2007 show at www.dimeadozen.org on May 15th. The working title for his version is AN I FOR RONNIE.

Grin02 (the taper): “At long last, Dio back with Sabbath! Well, not according to the billing, but whatever the name chosen for this lineup, we know who it REALLY is. Anyway, what a GREAT performance. Unfortunately, "Ear In The Wall" and "Lonely Is The Word" were long gone by the time the group came to the States, but no matter. What they did play was well worth the fifteen year wait. Almost two hours of Dio-era Sabbath! The crowd overall was pretty enthusiastic and Ronnie seemed to reflect that in his performance.”

”The name of this show comes from a small mistake Dio made. During the keyboard intro for "I", Ronnie tells the crowd that next was "The Sign Of The Southern Cross". Oops! Tony goes over to tell him, um, no, it's not. Dio apparently had a different set list than the rest of the band as he showed Tony. He then apologized to the crowd, and then introduced the correct song. A rare mistake from a long time professional!”

”Three minor glitches unfortunately. I accidentally hit a button during "Falling Of The Edge Of The World" and screwed up the audio for about two seconds around 3:41, so I cut that part out. There's a slight "hiccup" at 14:24 in "Heaven And Hell", but fortunately not too distracting. The little click at the beginning of "Neon Knights" was in the source, but I'm not sure how it got there. My apologies for these. Other than that, the show turned out pretty well for the equipment that I had.”

”And before anyone asks, YES, I recorded Megadeth and Machine Head as well. Once I get several seeds running I will make those available as well. Enjoy!”

Lineage for Grin02 Source: Toshiba PocketPC e740 (internal mono mic) > Resco Audio Recorder 3.21 > WAV > Cool Edit Pro 2.0 (split tracks, volume and EQ adjustments) > FLAC level 8 (verified)

Source #2 is a very good DAT stereo audience recording done by Jerry B., who also recorded the Chicago and Cincinnati gigs. He posted his show at www.thetradersden.org on May 16, 2007.

Jerry B.: “I'll keep this brief as I want to get it up ASAP as I have now gotten some rest after a very busy weekend! This is the only outside show I seen on this tour and it came out pretty good IMHO. There is another source at Dime so I'm putting this one here before it makes it way over here since mine is a stereo recording and not a mono like the other version. I'll comment more later tonight if necessary.”

It isn’t as much of a stunner as the recording he made in Chicago, but it IS the best source I’ve come across for this particular show. The sound is clear and well-balanced without the sort of annoyances that plague us on sources #1 and #3. My only complaint here is he should have been sitting in a better place. This sounds like a seat in the bleachers (due to the reverb), but I’m just being critical for the sake of comparisons. He still gets the Sabbathlive Blue Ribbon for Cleveland 2007. ;)

Lineage info for source #2: Sony PCM-M1 > Aiwa CM-TS55 > Maxell HS-4/60s > Phillips CDR200 > CDR > EAC > FLAC

Source #3 is a fair to good stereo audience (analog) recording done by Pat S. Some minor to moderate distortion during peak moments. The frequency response is very thin on Pat’s source, but somehow captures the more extreme parts of the spectrum. For example, the bass sounds like something that would be coming out of a sub-woofer! This is both pleasing AND distracting at the same time, but without this ultra-sonic bass the sound would be more akin to a transistor radio.

Obviously, Source #2 is my pick for the best Cleveland 2007 source to date. I’ve penalized the other two sources equally for their technical issues, so it’s a bit of a toss up there. I will say that Grin02 (Source #1) had the best seat for recording that night and had the best potential for a great recording IF his equipment hadn’t given him problems. Jerry and Pat were sitting farther back back, thus the band doesn’t have as much presence on their recordings. Kudos to all three for bringing home the bacon!

A clear recording of a great performance by Heaven And Hell in Detroit. There is just enough distortion around the edges of the music to keep this from being a solid VG. Many thanks to ‘J’ for sharing his recording and the following comments with Sabbathlive.

‘J’: “Just thought I would drop you guys an e-mail & let you know there is also a Detroit May 12 recording. I captured it myself. It is the complete show. I also got the Megadeth set, minus the encore song.”

“It was recorded from direct center on the main floor (general admission) about 10 rows back from the stage. My recording equipment included a Micro Track 24/96 2-channel digital recorder, Sound Pro modular Cardiod-stereo microphones. The mics were powered by a Sound Pro battery filter module. The audio was recorded in WAV format to a compact flash card with a sample rate of 88.2 & 24-bit. The raw WAV files were transferred via USB to a hard drive & split into tracks using Cool Edit 2000. No EQ’ing was done to the music. This was a straight transfer to disc without any tinkering with the sound.”

“The slight distortion is due to being so close to the stage/amps. Maybe the levels needed to be monitored a little closer (which is hard to do without drawing attention). I probably could have knocked off a little bit of it during the transfer, but as I said, I like to present the recording in its pure form. All & all I thought it was pretty good for the first time out with a new recorder.”

“I do it this way so the listener can EQ or adjust their player settings to their own preferences. The sound gets better as the show goes on due to the sound crew making adjustments to the Sabbath’s sound. The only real flaw in the show was some asshole screaming at me about 20 minutes into the show about where he can get a copy of my disc. Other than that, I think the sound is pretty good considering this is my first time out with the new recorder. I like this more than my old Sony MD recorder. “Heaven And Hell” is my favorite track & also the best sounding song of the show.”

“I don’t have the means to upload it anywhere, so I am not sure if this recording will be available to the masses any time soon. I have already put it to discs for some friends who were at the show & they have been playing the hell out of it. Love the site, keep up the good work.”

I am afraid I was too close at the other 4 but I haven't had time to really compare them all. There is very little talking or noises from "high idiots" on this show. This is recorded from all the way in the back row (Left Center Row QQ). We had a nice spot on a platform above everyone so there isn't any muffled sounds from people walking in front of you while you record. Anyway, hope you all enjoy this upload.”

The following comments and background info was provided by him on that forum.

Taper’s Comments (DeconBlues19): “Hey Everyone! It's been a while since I've had anything new I taped to share but I wanted to get this one up A.S.A.P. I taped this last night. What a show!”

”This is VERY raw. I just ran it through the computer as soon as I got home and with the exception of the "fade in" at the beginning, the "fade out" at the end and the tracking, I didn't even attempt to mix it at all. Because the line-in on MY computer is not working, I
had to record it on my wife's computer, burn it to a CD then ripped it onto mine using EAC.”

”The tape came out "ok." It has that "typical" PNC Arts Center sound. Anyone who's ever taped there will know what I mean. It's almost like a wind tunnel under the dome sometimes so at low points you can sometimes hear it faintly. Other than that, between
the guy on my left who was having sporadic coughing fits all night with his cell phone going off constantly and the drunk couple on my right who (when they weren't pounding down beers) were grinding each other all night. It eventually climaxed with the girl actually giving the guy a BJ right there in the aisle (she put a jacket over her head so please don't ask me if she swallowed!). I did the best I could.”

“I also taped MEGADETH but I couldn't even BEGIN to do a set list... Hell, I don't even know if I would track it right so I don't think DIME will let me post it. If anyone wants
to help me with that, please let me know.”

AUD Heaven And Hell opened their 2007 European tour at the SPIRIT OF ROCK Festival in Winterthur, Switzerland. The set list for this and most other European festival shows was trimmed down for the shorter stage time they would be allowed. However, the band has also elected to perform shorter sets at the non-festival shows, which has been something of a disappointment for their European fans.

The following songs were not performed at Winterthur: “After All (The Dead)”, “Lady Evil”, “The Devil Cried” and Vinny Appice’s Drum Solo.

I love hearing the crowd singing the main riff for “Heaven And Hell” during the intermission. Also, is Ronnie singing several lines from “Neon Knights” in German?? Only in Europe!

THREE unique sources for this show were posted on www.dimeadozen.org in June 2007. Also, a remaster of source #1 was posted as well. I have a lot of catching up to do on reviewing all of these new recordings!!

Source #1 is a good to VG mono audience recording done by Twentynine, which he titled BACK IN EUROPE. Compared with the other two sources, the sound here is quite muffled

Lineage for Source #1: Aiwa CM-30A > iPod 4G w/iPodLinux OS > Audacity 1.3.2-beta > Audacity 1.2.3 > X Audio Compression Toolkit 1.4b28 > Flac (level 8) Audio: 16bit/44.1KHz mono

A remastered version of source #1 was done by Rare Concerts. The running time is exactly the same as the original.

Rare Concerts: “I got the original mono files from Dime and after a good listening I thought it could sound better. I asked the original taper for his blessings and he was kind enough to let me work on it.”

“I worked on Sound Forge 8.0b converting the tracks into stereo files using the Channel Converter, then I used a plug-in called PSP Vintage Warmer to remove the low frequencies that caused the muffled sound. Also I worked on the high and mid frequencies (using the same plug-in) to bring Iommi, Dio and Appice to the front. Corrected the peaks and gave it more volume. No noise reduction or other kinds of plug-ins were used because the intention was to keep the sound as natural as possible.”

I thought it sounded much clearer than the unedited version and the remaster version have now that "bright" that was missing. Source 1 has two versions now, but fortunately two more sources surfaced and they are great quality too! I know some tapers hate their original sources being remastered, but the taper allowed me to do this. And to my ears it sounds really nice.”

Source #2 is a VG to VG+ MiniDisc recording. It was posted by Burn (the taper) on www.dimeadozen.org on June 7th, 2007. The overall sound quality is an improvement over source #2 with better high frequency response. The band is a bit more off in the distance than they are in Source #3. Clear and consistent quality, but you occasionally get some audience talking in the background.

Lineage for Source #2: SONY MD MZ-N710 and Sony Mic > SONY MD Mastertape > Magic Cleaning up > wav > DPoweramp > flac

Source #3 is an EX- audience recording recorded by Martin66. It was posted on www.dimeadozen.org on June 9th, 2007 under the title '762' Eulachhalle, Winterthur, June 2, 2007". Martin66 took the time to create artwork and format his package his show for either 1-CD or 2-CD formats.

Martin66: “When using a single 90 min CD-R the two fade tracks need to be omitted. In that case "Heaven And Hell" will flow smoothly into "Encore Break" without any gaps, repeats or clicks.”

There is no doubt that Martin66 found the best recording position of the three known Winterthur sources mentioned here. Although Martin rated his own version with a solid excellent rating, I might have to humble him just a slight bit. There are some occasional distortions at the beginning of the show, as well as some microphone noise. Perfect? No. Mostly excellent? Yes – and the best source I’ve found for Winterthur 2007!

Lineage for Source #3: Sound Professionals SP-CMC-8 (cardioid) -> Church Audio stereo mic preamp CA-9100 -> M-Audio Microtrack 24/96 -> wav (24 bit / 48 kHz) -> USB transfer -> wav -> WaveLab 6 (level correction, normalizing and downsampling) -> wav (16 bit / 44.1 kHz) -> shntool (stripping file header) -> wav -> EAC (V0.95 beta 4, fixing SBE) -> wav -> shntool (zero padding at the beginning and end of show) -> wav -> EAC (track splitting by cue sheet) -> wav -> FLAC frontend (V1.7.1 Etree edition) -> FLAC

The set list is the same trimmed down show they played in Winterhur with the exception of Vinny’s drum solo, which was reinstated here after being dropped for one night.

A very good to nearly excellent (VG+) audience recording done by Celebrimbor was posted on www.dimeadozen.org on June 6th, 2007. What makes this recording so nice is that the taper was well positioned. Each member of the band can be heard clearly in the mix, so you can follow the action very well on this recording. While there are some boomy moments and minor glitches, the excellent vantage point of the taper makes this one worth seeking out.

Source #1 is a good audience recording of the complete show. This source was posted by the taper (Heidemus) on www.dimeadozen.org on June 17th, 2007.

Heidemus: “The Copenhagen choir demanded an extra round of sing-along to the “Heaven and Hell” theme. But otherwise, it was a short set (minus three songs since the US tour!) with rather poor sound that has translated to an average sounding recording. Best suited for completists.”

I believe Heidemus was a little hard of himself in doing his own assessment. Yes, the sound has a slightly muffled and ‘boomy’ character due to the distance it was recorded from the stage. However, it is still clear enough to be able to judge the performance by. If he were standing just a little closer, this would have been an easy VG, since the recording gear was stable and consistent.

Lineage info for Heidemus source: Beyer Dynamics -> iRiver H340 (Rockbox - wav) -> Wavelab (slight EQ and editing) -> FLAC (level 8) -> you

Source #2 is an uncirculated audience recording that also includes the soundcheck. More information is forthcoming.

There were no new changes to the set list at the Copenhagen show.
6/7/07 SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL Norje (Sölvesborg) Destructor Source: Intro-E5150 <2:21>, The Mob Rules <4:06>, Children Of The Sea <6:39>, I <6:30>, The Sign Of The Southern Cross <9:13>, Voodoo <8:18>, Vinny Appice’s Drum Solo <3:55>, Computer God <6:16> Falling Off The Edge Of The World <6:10>, Shadow Of The Wind <6:27>, Die Young <6:49>, Heaven And Hell <19:08> -> Intermission -> E: Neon Knights <6:30> [RT – 92:22] AUD At least eight possible sources for the Sweden Rock Festival have been mentioned to me, but several still need confirmation. In all, there is one confirmed audience recording (reviewed below), four unconfirmed audience recordings AND an upcoming FM broadcast by P4 Radio (Sweden) in September. [For more information on the FM broadcast, visit http://www.sr.se/cgi-bin/p4/programsidor/index.asp?ProgramID=488]

Source #1 is a very good audience recording done by Destructor. This source was posted by the taper on www.dimeadozen.org on June 10th, 2007. It is a nearly complete recording that lacks only the ending of Vinny’s drum solo and the introduction for “Computer God”.

Lineage : Recorded with Sony Hi-MD Walkman MZ-RH1 (PCM mode) & Sony ECM-DS70P mic -> USB transfer -> Sonic Stage -> Wav (48,1 KHz/16-bit) -> CD Wave Editor & Adobe Audition 1.5 (track splits and splices) - Flac -> Make Torrent -> Dimeadozen -> You!

Destructor: “Some good and bad news about this one. The good news is that this recording turned out better than I ever hoped it would. The bad news is that it's incomplete. I assumed that “Heaven And Hell” would play for 105 - 115 minutes like they did in the US and Canada and decided that changing discs during Vinny Appice's drum solo would be the best solution. Said and done. Unfortunately, it turned out that several of the songs played overseas had been dropped for the European set list, so I didn't have to change discs at all, or could have waited until the encore break between “Heaven And Hell” and “Neon Knights”.”

”You'll notice where I changed discs during the drum solo when you listen to this. Too bad, but quality-wise I'm more than happy with how this recording turned out. Keep in mind while listening to this that Sweden Rock is an open air festival which takes place by the sea with some 25,000 people present.”

”Swedish radio recorded the Heaven And Hell gig for a future broadcast. Hopefully they'll broadcast the complete recording like they've done in the past with Iron Maiden instead of the usual 57 minutes.” [Source #2]

”It'll be interesting to see how many recordings of this gig that will surface. I know at least two other people who recorded this show as well (both mono recordings) - fellow Dime members Fistheldhigh and Grovsnus.” [Sources #3 and 4]

The following information was provided by Lars Bernstroem, who attended and recorded some of the show.

Lars Bernstroem: “I know of two recordings right now. Source #5 was recorded with a Sony MZ-R700 minidisk and Sony ECM-MS907 mic. It's a good recording taped from 40 meters in front of the stage. The other [source #6] was done with some kind of voice recorder. Source #7 is a digital camera recording containing 44 minutes of the show with screen shots. This one is said to be NOT good.”

Source #8 was recorded by Scott Heller.

Scott Heller: "I have got a poor quality recording but complete and did a lot of EQ and compression and made quite a good sounding recording out of it."
