| 3/10/07 | REHEARSAL - Pacific Coliseum | Vancouver | British Columbia | Canada | HEAVEN & HELL professionally filmed and recorded their rehearsals for possible inclusion in a planned official live DVD. The proposed live released will mainly feature their performance at Radio City Music Hall in NYC on 3/30/07, but may include some of the rehearsals as bonus material. Some fragments from the Vancouver rehearsal has already appeared in VH1 Classic’s ‘Hanging With Heaven & Hell’ TV special, which aired on U.S. TV in March. Ronnie can be seen wearing a coat during what looks to be a rather cold evening! | |
| 3/11/07 | Pacific Coliseum | Vancouver | British Columbia | Canada | Introduction by local DJ, Intro-E5150, After All (The Dead), The Mob Rules, Children Of The Sea, Lady Evil, Ear In The Wall, I, The Sign Of The Southern Cross, Voodoo, The Devil Cried, Vinny Appice's Drum Solo, Computer God, Falling Off The Edge Of The World, Shadow Of The Wind, Die Young, Heaven And Hell, E: Neon Knights | There are now TWO known video sources for the opening night in Vancouver. Source one is a very good to nearly excellent audience video of the complete show was filmed by Dr. J. Source #2 is filmed from a closer vantage point, but is a bit shakier than source #1. More info on source #2 is forthcoming. Filmed from the bleachers in the back of the venue, Dr. J is still able to zoom in and get really nice close-up’s of the band and follows the songs nicely. The main problem with filming from such a distance is that every movement you make is magnified. As a result, there is a bit of shakiness when he pans from one shot to another. But once he finds that shot, we are rewarded with some very nice unobstructed close-ups! So far, this is my favorite video from the tour. The running time is 113:46. Dr J: “The show was obviously fantastic! What a great set. I thought it was a bit weird to open with "After All" - not my favorite DEHUMANIZER song, but, a good tune nonetheless. As I was taping it, I had my camera fixed on Vinny, expecting him to count in 'Mob Rules' or 'Neon Knights,' so they threw me for a bit of a loop! The venue was well filled, though, not nearly the 80 or 90 percent I've seen some people suggest. We were all alone in the farthest section, dead center. They didn't have screens to aim at, but, considering the desolation (so to speak) of our seats, I was able to do some pretty good cinematography (especially considering that I don't use a pod of any sort - I was pretty much holding it with my left arm the whole night, zooming in and out with my right).” “This is easily the best film I've yet personally shot. This is going to set a pretty high standard for other films of this tour - not to say it won't be surpassed, but, it's opening night, I had no obstructions (maybe one or two people walk by the whole time) and other than a small bit of stage patter ("Thank you, Vancouver! Great to be here") I got every word and every note. And, the audio's pretty decent to boot.” ”Of course, with technology today, it probably won't be hard to beat. I met a guy after the show that showed me the 15 minutes or so of footage that he shot on his cell phone! The audio was crap, but, the picture looked pretty good! And, he was in the GA area, right by the stage!” “I've seen the other Vancouver film as well (shot by a guy named Vern), and it's very nicely done. But, I don't think a 2 cam edit of these two would work - clearly, neither was intended for that. I know that when I shot my video, I wasn't thinking there was another camera in the audience. And when I was shooting, I was trying to be 'cinematic' - shooting the subject off center, trying to properly frame one, two, three or all four members in the shot, capturing subtleties in the music. All of that would be lost if someone tries to create a 2 cam edit where none was intended. Obviously, I can't stop anyone from doing it; I'm just saying I don't think it would work.” Dr J: “My wife, 11 year old son and I decided we wanted to take a vacation somewhere away from home this year, and right around the time of this thinking, H&H announced their tour dates, so we decided to take that vacation in Vancouver.” ”The video was shot in widescreen mode, on two DV tapes in SP mod, using a Canon ZR60." |
| 3/13/07 | Rexall Place | Edmonton | Alberta | Canada | Complete Show Set List: Intro-E5150, After All (The Dead), The Mob Rules, Children Of The Sea, Lady Evil, Ear In The Wall, I, The Sign Of The Southern Cross, Voodoo, The Devil Cried, Vinny Appice's Drum Solo, Computer God, Falling Off The Edge Of The World, Shadow Of The Wind, Die Young, Heaven And Hell, E: Lonely Is The Word, Neon Knights YouTube Video Clips: Intro-E5150 -> After All (The Dead) [8:03], The Mob Rules [4:11], The Sign Of The Southern Cross [8:03], The Devil Cried [6:45], Lonely Is The Word [7:01], Neon Knights [5:14l |
Good audience footage shot from middle-right side bleachers (closer to Tony). These complete video clips were posted on YouTube on March 14th by the filmer Dumbmegacunt. . The first two songs are probably zoomed in as far as the filmer is able to, since we never really get any real close-up’s of the band members. The good news is that once the obstructions clear, we get a nice wide angle video of the performance that is quite enjoyable. The video image does get rather shaky at times and only a real fan is going to want to sit through all of these clips. The sound of these YouTube clips is clear and certainly VG quality (mono?). The running time of all 8 clips totals 39:15. The video isn’t quite as nice during “Children Of The Sea”, where the filmer has either moved or pulled their zoom in. At this point, the band are much more distant and harder to follow. Thankfully, the filmer pulls the zoom in for the new song “Ear In The Wall”. The real bonus at the Edmonton show was the encore of “Lonely Is The Word”, which hadn’t been performed live by the band since the spring 1980 European tour! They had it during the rehearsals in Vancouver, but didn’t do it for the opening night show. At the beginning of the song, Ronnie is handed a large banner by one of their fans, which he places on the drum riser. The Edmonton 2007 footage reviewed here might not be the best quality Sabbath video we see from this tour, but it does mark a promising development in online video sharing. For the first time in my memory, we’re now getting COMPLETE songs posted for online viewing – not just the fragments we’ve grown accustomed to. And for this, I thank Dumbmegacunt wholeheartedly! |
| 3/14/07 | Saddledome | Calgary | Alberta | Canada | Complete Show Set List: Intro-E5150, After All (The Dead), The Mob Rules, Children Of The Sea, Lady Evil, Ear In The Wall, I, The Sign Of The Southern Cross, Voodoo, The Devil Cried, Vinny Appice's Drum Solo, Computer God, Falling Off The Edge Of The World, Shadow Of The Wind, Die Young, Heaven And Hell, E: Lonely Is The Word, Neon Knights YouTube Video Clips: Intro-E5150, After All (The Dead) [has cuts] <6:14>, The Mob Rules [joined in progress] <3:02>, Children Of The Sea <5:58>, Ear In The Wall [joined in progress] <3:41>, Voodoo <6:18>, Vinnie Appice’s Drum Solo [joined in progress] <2:57>, Die Young (with Iommi solo intro) <4:19>, Heaven And Hell [incomplete] <3:02> |
There may be two audience sources for this show, but both appear to be incomplete. Source #1 was filmed by Darryl M. The running time of all Darryl’s clips is approximately 26 minutes. Darryl M.: “I filmed parts of every song. Some tunes I have almost the whole song. I had lots of memory on my camera. I almost could have filmed its entirety, but I want to jump around and yell and that doesn't make for good steady video.” “I filmed parts of every song. Some tunes I have almost the whole song. I had lots of memory on my camera. I almost could have filmed its entirety, but I want to jump around and yell and that doesn't make for good steady video.” “Pretty good video for a hand held still camera eh? They're getting tons of views. I list all of them on my website...easier than YouTube’s "indexing". Youtubes compression just doesn't do them any justice, and YouTube makes them so tiny.....” As of July 12th, Darryl’s videos were removed from YouTube by request of Warner Music. This is a sad and unfortunate development for fans and filmers who had been posting concert clips on that site. |
| 3/20/07 | Steelback Centre | Sault St. Marie | Ontario | Canada | Audience Video Source #1: After All (The Dead) [joined in progress during 1st verse], The Mob Rules, Children Of The Sea, Lady Evil, I, The Sign Of The Southern Cross, Voodoo, The Devil Cried, Vinny Appice's Drum Solo, Falling Off The Edge Of The World [joined in progress during 1st verse], Shadow Of The Wind, Die Young, Heaven And Hell, E: Neon Knights [Missing “Computer God”] | Incomplete audience video of fair to sometimes poor quality. The video begins with “After All” joined in progress during the first verse. There is also a cut between Vinny’s Drum Solo and the 1st verse of “Falling Off The Edge Of The World”, including a missing “Computer God”. Running time is 91:24. Shot from the back bleachers on the left (Geezer’s side), DR’s Sault Saint Marie video is pretty much a wide shot of the stage from the very back of the venue with no close-up’s or zooms. The distance wouldn’t bother me so much if there weren’t so many obstructions (heads) in front the camera throughout the show. Also – the camera gets tilted a bit at times so we aren’t getting a level view of the stage. The audio is a little better than the video itself (fair to good at best), but suffers from level distortion during the louder sections. Comments by D.R. (the filmer).: "I wasn't that far away but my zoom decided not to work and somehow auto-focus got turned on. I didn't have time to fool around with the camera as the oldest guard in Ontario decided to stand right beside me. I also had to observe my son who was handling my audio recorder and my buddy I brought decided to get loaded and fall asleep. Can you imagine? So, when the camera points up, that's when the guard is beside me. All things considered it came out pretty good....with all that stuff happening.” We’d hope that the views might improve as the show goes on, but this isn’t the case. The video becomes downright poor during “The Sign Of The Southern Cross” when the stage view is almost completely obstructed by the audience. Sadly, this is the view we get from that point in the show until Iommi begins his guitar introduction for “Die Young”. Computer God” was not filmed, as part 1 ends with Vinny’s drum solo. The 2nd disc begins with “Falling Off The Edge Of The World” joined in progress during the opening verse. This is just in time to catch Ronnie inverting the two last phrases – “To sparkle and to shine / “The keeper of the sign”. Nothing much to see between “TSOTSC” and “Die Young” other than an occasional glimpse of a small sliver of the stage. The camera gets tilted way from the stage at the climax of “Die Young”, possibly due to security concerns. I realize this isn’t a shining review, but I do still appreciate the efforts of D.R. to capture the Sault Saint Marie show for posterity. If not for his balls of steel, I wouldn't have this video to criticize! D.R. also gave us a 2nd audio source for this show (analog) which you can read more about on the Known Audios list. A short 82 second clip was shown on local TV that included some live performance footage of Heaven And Hell, but the audio was dubbed. Most of the footage showed the long line of fans waiting to get in the venue that day. |
| 3/22/07 | Air Canada Centre | Toronto | Ontario | Canada | Jim R.: "One of the sources is shot from the floor, so there's some issues with heads in the way. The camera shakes pretty much the whole time (best not viewed on a big screen!) and the filmer missed two songs at the beginning and was forced to record over the second part of 'Neon Knights'. Apparently, he got caught right after the show ended, but security was pretty easy going about it." | |
| 3/24/07 | John Labatt Centre | London | Ontario | Canada | A fragmentary audience video (approx. 60m) was posted on Dimeadozen.org just shortly after this show happened. More info forthcoming. | |
| 3/26/07 | Bell Centre | Montreal | Quebec | Canada | Videopete | A video recording of this show has been confirmed by Grant B. Grant B.: "He (the filmer) had to change tapes / discs during during the drum solo. I believe the show is two discs at XP with no authoring on it." |

HEAVEN & HELL’s first show in the States was this sold out gig at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. Their performance was professionally filmed and recorded for a proposed live DVD. The official release date for HEAVEN AND HELL: LIVE FROM RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL in the U.S. is set for August 28th, 2007 on WB / Rhino Records. The proposed release date in Germany is August 24th, 2007. This was first officially announced on the insert for the LIVE AT HAMMERSMITH CD. LIVE FROM RADIO MUSIC HALL will feature the COMPLETE 105 minute concert with Dolby Digital 2.0 and 5.1 audio and 16:9 Widescreen video. It will be available on both CD and DVD formats. Additional extras will include a Heaven And Hell road movie [19:15], ‘Hail The Gods Of Metal’ [4m], ‘The Mob Rules’ [4m], & ‘Radio City’ [4m]. Due to some hassles with the local union, the band’s soundcheck was cut short in a very abrupt manner. Footage from the Vancouver rehearsals may also be included in the final release. In addition to the planned official release, a few audience video versions are also making the rounds. As of May 13th, 2007, I can confirm one unique source – an excellent tripod video shot from the back center of the floor at Radio City Music Hall. This one is truly a gem!! Excellent close-up’s and great sound. This one surpasses Vancouver for best H&H audience video as of May 13th, but I’m told Philadelphia is also going to be a sweet one. I’m very thankful that my good friend Rich Grenfell has offered to review this one for Sabbathlive. I’ve been piled very high with all of the new additions that the Heaven & Hell North American tour has brought, so I haven’t had enough time to review this one in the depth that it deserves. Review by Rich Grenfell: As stated on the menus, this disc was produced by the NYC Bitch Committee, and this source (for now) is selling it. I received this DVD in a trade recently and felt that this being such a special show that it deserved a proper review. The disc is menued with a very nice graphic of the Heaven and Hell angels having a smoke with the names of the band members above them. The background audio track is their new song "Shadow Of The Wind". You can navigate to play the songs individually OR you can just play the whole show. The opening sequence of the video features some stills and a little footage taken outside of Radio City Music Hall. During this section, “E5150” can be heard playing over the "Shadow of The Wind" track. This editing choice seemed a little sloppy to me, but hey it's a bootleg you know! We then find ourselves inside the venue (dead center on the balcony), with a shot of 3 windows in a stone wall and are just in time to hear the very end of "E5150". The band hits the stage with "After All (The Dead)", and I must say that they are in fine form! There is a bit of camera focus issues and some jostling but the filmer gets it together rather nicely. I do have to say that the person who filmed this show does a really nice job at both framing and zooming most all of the time. There is some jostling and such but mostly between songs. Whoever they were must be pretty familiar with the music as they seem to zoom in and back out to capture the stage at just the right times. Anyway, we head into "The Mob Rules, and I gotta say (Rob will chuckle when he reads this) I am very impressed with Ronnie. I was a bit skeptical before this tour started, but he performs just as well as he did in the 1980's. Coming from me that's saying a lot, as I have been know to be somewhat of Ronnie basher (to be polite). "Children of The Sea" is up next and we have our first drawback, as the camera is wandering around and not on the stage for all of the first verse. There also seems to be an audio change here. Once we settle back upon the stage, the shooting is very well done. "Lady Evil" and "I" are next, and the shooting is again well done. The performance by band is nothing short of inspiring! "Sign Of The Southern Cross" is introduced as "somewhat of a favorite" and I'm thinking "a favorite!!??” I have been waiting for you to perform the whole song since you released MOB RULES back in 1981! Anyway, it was really great to see this song in particular. Afterwards you can hear the audience starts chanting “DIO! DIO! DIO!” Ronnie seemed a bit touched and gives them an "Awww shucks". The show continues and is excellent in both quality and performance right up until the encore break between "Lonely Is The Word" and "Neon Knights". I'm not really sure what's up, but at 1:43:01 there is some sort of audio "ghosting" happening. You can hear the audience screaming their heads off while you can also hear "Lonely Is The Word" being performed (faintly), but the song has not started yet. This “bleed through” continues throughout the song. So when they play the song, you can hear the correct audio track being superimposed by another audio track. Since they are not in time with one another, it sounds a bit confusing. This problem continues through "Neon Nights". During that song, you can hear the band playing on one track and Ronnie thanking the crowd on another. While these audio problems at the end are a drawback ("Lonely Is The Word" is another of my faves), this disc is certainly worth having. However, if anyone (and this means you Rob!) should come across a copy with the audio issue fixed, please let me know! I do recommend this disc, audio issues and all! |

I asked the seller for some sample footage if possible to check quality. If anything turns up, I will let you know." |

| 4/29/07 | Broomfield Events Center | Broomfield (Denver) | CO | U.S. | Two known audience video sources that were orchestrated by the same person. In other words, a 2-cam mix of both sources has already been sewn together. Not in wide circulation just yet, this one will probably seep out in time. Dr. J.: “I'm still recovering from last night, as we saw Sabbath here in Denver (actually, it was in Broomfield, just north of Denver proper). Great show! Same set as they've been playing - no “Lonely is the Word”, no “Ear in the Wall”.” “There are TWO complete audience films of this show - my friend Brian and I each had a camera. With a bit of support from my wife Lori (who shot three complete songs herself), we filmed the entire show with the idea of trying to edit a 2-cam video from it. Brian's video is all medium and long range stuff - our camera is all close-ups. All of us were sitting in the very last row, dead center (pretty much exactly as in Vancouver). Brian was one seat over from us.” “The venue is not particularly big - even where we were sitting, the stage was reasonably close. Not a tremendous crowd - maybe half full in a place that I heard seats in the 5,000 range. One point I would make is that the “Heaven And Hell” (the song) jam section, Iommi, Butler and Appice played a completely different solo from the one we saw in Vancouver, with an almost jazz-like improv vibe to it - very cool!” Dr. J sent me a copy of his new 2-cam mix to review, so I took a quick look at DVD1 this evening. Much praise for his quality conscious editing, which spans the show on to 2 single layer DVD’s. I also like the text subtitles he used to introduce each song. Very nice edit! Upon my first impression of this video, I’d probably give it a VG+ for video quality and the same for the audio track. Both cameras were a good distance back in the center (like Dr. J’s own Vancouver video from 3/11/07), so I knew he’s be battling the same problem of keeping the camera steady during the long zooms. Camera 1 (done by Dr. J) does get us onstage very nicely, but the picture does go a bit soft during the more extreme close-up’s (digital zoom affect). Otherwise, the camera work done here is reminiscent of Vancouver 3/11/07 – for obvious reasons! Camera 2 (done by Brian) captures more wide angles and distant shots of the stage for contrast. Unfortunately, the camera he was using had some sort of problem that caused a lot of small vertical lines to become visible in the picture. The differences between the images captured by each camera make the 2-cam mix slightly distracting at times. I still need to give this one a thorough viewing before I make any final judgments, but these are my first impressions. Another very nice video from Dr. J.!! |

| 5/10/07 | Wachovia Spectrum | Philadelphia | PA | U.S. | I’ve received two confirmations that an audience video for the Philadelphia 2007 show was done. The sound and video quality is supposed to be on par with NYC video.” |

For the first half, I had people constantly moving to and from their seats, people standing and moving around, etc. I did my best. This was my first time with a camera at a show and hadn't quite anticipated the crowd doing their best to ruin everything. By the time the drum solo came around, the people directly between me and the stage were still standing (deep in a conversation, oblivious to the show), while everyone else was sitting, leaving me standing there in the open trying to film around these 2. At that point I could either stay and deal with it and risk getting busted, push those two morons into the penalty box in front of them, or move...the latter seemed the least likely to get me into trouble.” Equipment: Giant Squid omni mics w/bass roll off > Radio Shack 42-2559> Canon ZR800 MiniDV > Firewire > Insignia DVD recorder(SP mode) |

The rain was very heavy during two songs! I used an umbrella and a plastic bag to save my back from this bloody hell heavy rain! Just before the show, we could see lightning and very dark clouds!! These really were ‘Spinal Tap’ conditions. The sad thing is that they only played for one hour!!! Nothing from THE DIO YEARS. NO NEW TRACKS!!!!!!!!!!” “The sound quality is between VG to VG+. The wind was no help to me in capturing some good quality audio at this Open Air festival, not to mention the rain! But the video helps this to be a cool bootleg. I was not in the front of the audience, because it would have been too dangerous. (Flying Belgian beer!) 90% of the show was filmed from the projection screen, so you can see clearly all members. My zoom was set for 12X and 2 million pixels. If I hadn’t done it this way, you wouldn’t be able to see the band clearly enough.” |
