| 10/20/98 | REUNION is released in the U.S. | PRO | Official CD: Reunion (Sony) Notes: Recorded live at the N.E.C. in Birmingham on December 4th and 5th, 1997, this album was the first official release by the original lineup since NEVER SAY DIE. This album also issued on the Minidisc format on 10/24/98! It also contains two new studio tracks, “Psycho Man” and “Selling Your Soul”. These songs were mainly written and produced by Iommi and Osbourne. These tracks may have been originally written for Ozzy’s OZZMOSIS album. A drum machine was used on “Selling Your Soul”, since Bill’s playing was deemed “too out of time”! A working title for this album was SONG FROM THE BLACK BOX. |

AUD | CD Bootlegs: Killing Yourself To Live. CD-R’s: New Years Evil, Live From The Floor, More Sabbath Stuff [only 3-tracks: KYTL, SOTU and Supernaut] Notes: This New Years Eve show in Phoenix kicked off Sabbath's 1999 U.S. tour for REUNION. There are several sources for this show in circulation, as well as an audience video. Even rarer is an audience tape of the soundcheck, which was covertly recorded by one taper. It features a rendition of "Planet Caravan", of which there is only one other known live recording - the East Rutherford soundcheck on 2/5/99. The set list contained several surprises for Sabbath fans. "After Forever" was performed live for the first time since 1972. It remained in the set until the end of the 1999 world tour. Another great addition was "Killing Yourself To Live", which hadn't been heard since the end of the SABOTAGE tour (London 1/13/76). Sadly, it hasn't been played again since, except during soundchecks. The sporadically performed "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is also performed here. Resurrected for thir hometown shows in Birmingham, "Lord Of This World" is played here for the very last time. There is also an interesting medley with "Symptom Of The Universe" and "Supernaut". |

| 1/8/99 | San Jose Arena | San Jose | Intro-Sabbath Medley, War Pigs, N.I.B., Fairies Wear Boots, After Forever, Electric Funeral, Sweet Leaf, Into The Void, Snowblind, Dirty Women, Black Sabbath, Iron Man, Embryo -> Children Of The Grave, Paranoid | AUD | Two known sources, including an excellent DAT audience recording and an audience film. One story I’ve heard about this the DAT source alleges that the taper was sitting in the “hearing impaired” section and connected their recorder to the direct line feed that the venue provided for these patrons. If is true, it would account for the excellent sound quality of this one. CD Bootlegs: SAN JOSE 1999, SAN JOSE '99, THE REUNION OF THE CENTURY CD-R's: THE REUNION OF THE CENTURY, THE RETURN OF THE CENTURY, RE-LEAF, SAN DIEGO 1/8/99, MADRID 1983 (2000 Internet Records) [8 songs only, added as bonus tracks] |

[Note – “Dirty Women” and Bill Ward’s drum solo are missing due to technical difficulties during the recording of this source.] Source #2 [Complete 2-cam audience film]: War Pigs, Bassically -> N.I.B., Fairies Wear Boots, After Forever, Electric Funeral, Into The Void, Snowblind, Black Sabbath, Dirty Women, Black Sabbath, Iron Man, Embryo -> Children Of The Grave, Paranoid. |
AUD | Review by Rob Dwyer: Flawed, incomplete and merely "good" audience recording of a flu-stricken Sabbath! Just seven shows into the beginning of their 1999 REUNION tour, both Ozzy and Tony fell quite sick. Ozzy was wrestling with a nasty head cold here, while Iommi was feeling the onset of the flu. It was apparent from the start that something wasn't quite right from the beginning, as Ozzy kept going sharp during their opening number, "War Pigs". Just before "N.I.B.", Ozzy acknowledged Iommi's condition: "Tony Iommi's not feeling too good tonight, but I know you'll help him keep going. LET'S HEAR IT FOR TONY!!! Too many bugs on this fucking planet." After a dodgy rendition of "N.I.B." which found Ozzy faltering during the 'chorus' sections (especially the 2nd one), he apologized again, commenting that it wasn't his fault that he felt so sick, but was doing the best he could with this flu spreading like a plague through he band! And of course, this is the cleaned up version of what Ozzy actually said! Anyhow, he encouraged the band to charge ahead into "Fairies Wear Boots" which was passable, but played at a fairly forced and lethargic tempo. Allow me to say for one quick moment that I certainly don't fault the band for being human! This isn't the first "sick" show I've heard them have to play and give them tons of credit for pushing ahead and playing the Seattle gig in the first place. It was the 5th sold out show in a row for them and I know they really didn't want to let their fans down. Unfortunately, they would have to postpone the following two gigs in Salt Lake City and Denver until February, only to be cancelled a 2nd time when Ozzy developed nodes on his throat! In fact, the winter '99 U.S. tour was fraught with sickness, forcing them to cancel or postpone 1/3rd of those scheduled dates (10 out of 32 shows). With all of that said about Sabbath's poor health in early '99, let's talk about the actual Seattle '99 recording. While this audience recording may still be somewhat rare, it's really not all that great to begin with. We've already established that at least half of the band was sick as dogs, so now I have to break the news that the recording is also full of cuts, level distortions and an annoying fluctuation in signal strength throughout the recording. It sounds as if the microphone this taper was using had a short in it, causing the level to diminish sharply when the volume increased or the unit was moved the wrong way. The only thing I can really say on the positive end is that the taper was positioned close enough to get a fairly clear earshot of the band. But it's really too bad that this one got cut so short (it's complete missing "Dirty Woman" and Bill's drum solo and the running time is just 73:01, about 12-17 minutes shorter than your average '99 show), not to mention the roller coaster volume we're left to deal with. I received this CD-R with the understanding that it was a "rare trade only" item, meaning that I wasn't to let this one go easily. This is an all too common practice that some traders use to increase the perceived value of a show. And while I'm not going to bite the hand that feeds, it's no secret that I despise the idea of receiving a gift "with conditions of use". It's almost like saying "you can have this, but it's really not yours to share". Granted, the guy who gave this to me is actually an extremely generous soul and probably one of my favorite traders to deal with. But it’s sad to say that his hands have been tied by yet another puppet master. Sheesh, aren't we taking this crap too seriously? I mean, it's only rock 'n' roll, right? Politics aside, wouldn't you expect for a "rare trade only" show to be something 'really special'?? That's the sort of expectation that is built in to such grandiose declarations on a trade list. Bottom line - if you do trade something rare for this, be sure it's an equally crappy recording! To be fair, here’s a second opinion from someone who tells me there IS a more complete source tape (the video) and that Sabbath REALLY all that bad… Jason <Cozmosis1214@aol.com>: “It seems to me that while the band was not feeling well, the show wasn't that bad. I have a very well-edited AUD video of this show, without all the cuts mentioned in the review, which I personally thought was pretty good. I haven't visited in a bit, but I saw this and had to comment.” |

The one on your list and another called Rosemont Horizon 1/19/99, which is missing “War Pigs”. Geezer’s bass seems a little distorted at times on this version too. “I also have an audio obtained directly from the taper way back in 1999, if I remember correctly. He used a Sony dx3 (or something like that) with 2 mics on top of his hat! This copy is way better and 100%complete too. It has the intro and the outro! The quality is far better than the cheesy disc I have (which is no better than B+/A -), but it’s on cassette and sourced from cassette.” |

AUD | A tape of the soundcheck for this show is also in circulation. It is noteworthy for the fact that it contains one of the only known live reading of “Planet Caravan”, even if it is only fragmentary. There is apparently another recording of "Planet Caravan" on a still uncirculated soundcheck from Phoenix 12/31/98. |

Bobby Plant: “I found my incomplete master tape of the Skydome Toronto show from February of 99. It was a real piss off as I missed the first and last song. The Skydome was known for it's horrible acoustics so I thought you might like a sample track from my original transfer.” CD-R's: Live At Skydome, Toronto 1999 |

There is some static in the recording, but it is excellent otherwise. #2 is a very good complete audience Minidisc recording, done with Low Cost Core Sound Cardiods into a Sharp MS702 deck. Both versions are approximately 90 minutes. Unfortunately, Ozzy's voice isn't in the greatest shape at this show. He sounds as if he's got a cold here. |
| 6/14/99 | Polaris Amphitheater (Germain Amphitheatre) | Columbus | Intro-Sabbath Medley, War Pigs, N.I.B., Fairies Wear Boots, After Forever, Electric Funeral, Sweet Leaf, Into The Void, Guitar Solo, Dirty Women, Black Sabbath, Supernaut (Intro) -> Paranoid | AUD | |

Although much of the official video was filmed at their 1997 reunion shows in Birmingham, it is likely that other songs are from the U.S. tour (such as "After Forever", which was not performed in Birmingham). | |

Source #1 has a running time of 80:24 and would have been nearly complete if not for the cuts in "Paranoid" (both the intro and ending are missing). Source #2 includes the "Robin Hood" outro tape and runs for nearly 85 minutes. From the get go, you can hear someone's cell phone ringing nearby, while another displeased fan shrieks "Shut the f*cker off!!!" several times. The phone rings several times during the show and the reprisals get even angrier. Welcome to the dawn of the 21st century.... Well played show with an otherwise good vibe from the band and audience. |
| 6/25/99 | Pine Knob Music Theater (DTE Energy Music Theatre) | Clarkston | Intro-Sabbath Medley, War Pigs, Bassically -> N.I.B., Fairies Wear Boots, After Forever, Electric Funeral, Sweet Leaf, Into The Void, Band Introductions -> Nicholls / Iommi instrumental, Snowblind, Black Sabbath, Iron Man, Children Of The Grave, Supernaut [intro] -> Paranoid | SB/AUD | |

There may also be a pro-shot video for this one as well... CD-R's: Deer Creek '99 |
| 7/1/99 | Float Rite Park | Somerset | Intro-Sabbath Medley, War Pigs, Bassically -> N.I.B., Fairies Wear Boots, After Forever, Electric Funeral, Sweet Leaf, Into The Void, Nicholls / Iommi Instrumental -> Snowblind, Black Sabbath, Iron Man, Embryo -> Children Of The Grave, E: Supernaut [intro] -> Paranoid | WEB | This show was simulcast live via "streaming audio" through the Internet by the 'House Of Blues'. As a result, copies derived from the internet source will have a very watery compressed sound that is VG at best. |
| 7/3/99 | Alpine Valley Amphitheater (Music Theatre) | East Troy | Intro-Sabbath Medley, War Pigs, N.I.B., Fairies Wear Boots, After Forever, Electric Funeral, Sweet Leaf, Into The Void, Guitar Solo, Snowblind, Black Sabbath, Iron Man, Children Of The Grave, Supernaut (Intro) -> Paranoid | AUD | VG+ stereo audience recording. Running time is approx. 95 minutes. |
| 7/5/99 | The World Music Theater (Tweeter Center) | Tinley Park | Source #1: War Pigs [tape fades in with sirens - "Supertzar" intro missing] <8:00>, Bassically -> N.I.B. <5:59>, Fairies Wear Boots <6:12>, After Forever <5:19>, Electric Funeral <5:08>, Sweet Leaf <5:18>, Into The Void <6:46>, Band Introductions -> Nicholls / Iommi instrumental -> Snowblind <8:48>, Black Sabbath <8:12>, Iron Man <7:59>, Embryo -> Children Of The Grave <5:36>, Supernaut [intro] -> Paranoid <5:24> | AUD | Three known sources. #1 is a VG quality audience recording of the complete concert. This version is kind of distant sounding, but clear. When this was mastered to CD, each song was faded out and quickly faded back in. There doesn't appear to be any obvious cuts, but this is still very irritating! What is the point in fading out each song? Running time is 78:47. #2 is a complete audience film. #3 is an incomplete audience film that ends with "Fairies Wear Boots". |

Mostly complete, except for the missing "Sabbath Medley" introduction. Running time is just under 85 minutes. This one has lots of "hooting and hollering", especially from one extremely vocal patron. After a few songs, this wears on my nerves a bit, but maybe it's just my caffeine intake today? Ozzy is sounding rather pitiful on the intro for "War Pigs", "Sweet Leaf" and "Snowblind". There may be another source tape for this show, but I still need confirmation on this. CD-R's: GEORGE WA 7-18-99 |

This recording was not processed, no normalizing, no EQ Story: I got lawn seats to this show, stay with me it gets better. I got crappy seats so I decided to bring minimal gear [1 blank MD] thinking I wasn't going to get a recording worth a shit. When I got in to the show, me and my buddies went straight to the beer line. There was only one beer line open and we waited in it for the entire 45 minute set of the opening band, the name of which I cannot remember. I was going to meet other friends on the lawn but while waiting in the booze line said friends approached me with "you'll never believe what just happened". They were waiting in line at the gate to buy lawn tickets and some dude with a backstage pass walked up and asked them if they wanted his tickets, he didn't need them. They turned out to be great seats 10 rows back just right of center stage. My buddy Brett said "you go up, you have the rig". I didn't argue with him. 1 blank, F#*K! what was I thinking. I was faced with the decision of a half stereo set or a whole mono set. Well here you go.... It isn't great but I've heard worse, enjoy!" Note: During "Into The Void", Ozzy deployed the water cannon, so had to use duct tape to keep my rig dry. As a result, my recording gets muddy from this point. |

Ozzy even admitted that his voice was a bit shot, but the Montreal crowd didn't seem to mind. At the show I felt like the Montreal crowd was carrying Ozzy through the show to keep him going.” “To many Sabbath collectors, this may be a new recording as the other known recording of this show is a video where the camcorder was mainly filming the video screen.” |
