9/12/80 Apollo Glasgow
Scotland Budgie Very first official Ozzy solo performance with BLIZZARD OF OZZ. The lineup at the time consisted of Randy Rhoads (guitar), Lee Kerslake (drums), Bob Daisley (bass) & Lindsey Bridgewater (keyboards).

From Ozzy FAQ by Mike Lalonde: "What you probably don't know is that Ozzy had two shows before his debut under the band name of "Law". The opening day of his first solo concert he and Sharon paced the streets nervously. Since people in Scotland usually showed up at the concert without prepaying for tickets, they had no way of knowing how many people would show up. As it turned out it was a big success."

4/22/81 Towson Center Towson MD U.S. Motorhead Opening night for the 1st leg of the DIARY OF A MADMAN U.S. tour. Motorhead supported BLIZZARD OF OZZ for the majority of this tour. Although Garry Sharpe Young's book mentions The Starfighters & Magnum as openers during this leg, I have no evidence yet to support this. He may have been talking about the April '82 tour. 7/4/81 'Day At The Green' - Coliseum Oakland CA U.S. Heart (HL), Blue Oyster Cult, Pat Travers, Loverboy & a local Oakland band Brad Gillis was in attendance at this show. Little would he realize then that we would be performing with Ozzy just a year later!

Dave: "Great site I was looking through the Ozzy tour info you posted and can add some info for you. I grew up in the bay area and started going to "Days On The Green" back in '79. These were festival shows with multiple bands. The first one I saw in '79 was Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, AC/DC, & Mahogany Rush. The next year I went to the '80 DOG with Sabbath, Molly Hatchet, Cheap Trick and Journey."

"To the point - even though back in those days I was dabbling in "herbal" remedies and healing "powders", on the July '81 DOG, I know for sure Motorhead was not on that bill. To the best of my knowledge, Ozzy was billed as special guest and was the second to perform after some local band (whom I cannot remember) then was Loverboy, Pat Travers, B.O.C. and Heart headlined the event. Hope this helps."

I remember it well and may even have the ticket stub (dont make me go digging through my storage space). The JPP opened with "Toys in the Attic" and was then almost driven off the stage by a crowd chant of "Ozzy". But to Joe's credit, he stayed and played his heart out. He let the music do the talking!"

1/20/82 Veterans Memorial Auditorium Des Moines IA U.S. Starfighters Ozzy bites the bat... and the bat bites back! This now legendary episode in Ozzy's career was actually a case of poor judgment. Believing that a fan had simply tossed up a toy rubber bat, Ozzy played along and began to take a bite out of a very real bat! Some versions of this story claim that the bat actually bit Ozzy back afterwards, while more credible renditions state that it was already head. How is someone going to smuggle a live bat into a concert anyhow??! Regardless, Ozzy was off to the hospital after the show for a series of very painful rabies shots.

A lot of the rednecks were coming up and asking Randy to dance. Randy took it all very well and his put-downs to these guys had Tommy and me in stitches. We eventually made a hasty exit when one of them finally caught on to the wisecracks." [from Garry Sharpe-Young's OZZY OSBOURNE: THE STORY OF THE OZZY OSBOURNE BAND - pg. #73]
