| 9/68 | The Macabre | London | England | Exact date unknown - as 'EARTH'? | ||
| 9/68 | The Mistral Club | Beckenham Junction | Kent | England | Exact date unknown - as 'EARTH'? Michael Liddle: "I have scanned the Beckenham Journal and the Beckenham & Penge Advertiser for September 1968 but regret no success. I did find an advertisement for the Mistrale Club in Beckenham at the start of September, and a review of a particular performance at the Mistrale, but nothing for the group/band you mention." |

| 11/68 | Stafford | England | Unconfirmed. This alleged show is mentioned in the book HOW BLACK WAS OUR SABBATH. I have been unable to find any shows on Jethro Tull’s itinerary from that period in Stafford. Could the authors have mixed this up with the Mothers show on 11/24/68 where EARTH opened for Tull? “Earth had played a gig in Stafford opening for Tull, whose flute-playing singer and frontman Ian Anderson had watched their set, impressed, from the back of the hall. When Tull guitarist Mick Abrahams left suddenly, Anderson remembered Tony Iommi and invited him to join the band” [from HOW BLACK WAS OUR SABBATH – pg. #16] |

| 2/69 | Henry's Blues House | Birmingham | England | "During this same period, they acquired proper representation, signing with Jim Simpson at Big Bear Management in Birmingham. Simpson also managed Bakerloo Blues Line, the blues-jazz orientated Tea and Symphony, and Locomotive, for whom he played trumpet. Big Bear needed an outlet for their bands to perform and Simpson opened a blues night at the Crown Hotel in Station Road, Birmingham. He called in Henry's Blues House. One of the first bands to play there was the newly formed Led Zeppelin." "Jim Simpson was a decent and honest man, and probably not ruthless enough for the rock 'n' roll industry. As a musician himself, only a few years older than Earth, he got on really well with Ozzy, Tony, Geezer and Bill, although it was generally felt that he was more interested in Locomotive, his own band, and Bakerloo Blues Line. Earth and Tea and Symphony came third and forth in his affections. Later, the band would outgrow Big Bear. While Jim remained in Birmingham, they needed a manager who could dash to business meetings in London at a moment's notice and keep his finger on the pulse of the industry." [from HBWOS - pgs. #19-20] Sabbath broke the house record originally held by Jethro Tull in February '70 at Jim Simpson's club! |

| 1969 | Germany | Earth during this time is booked on many Continental tours. These gigs included a performance at a brothel in Switzerland. We’re still looking for more details on the shows that EARTH performed between March and October 1969. If you happen to have any information regarding these shows, please contact us! "In a small German club, a band by the name of "Earth" is up on the stage. The audience is ignoring the band as audiences typically do. The lead singer, Ozzy, decides to get their attention. He goes back to the dressing room, unnoticed by the audience. Backstage, he coats his hands, face and feet with purple paint. He returns to the stage and then screams at the audience. The audience remains oblivious to this purple man screaming at them. The band resigns themselves to the fact that the audience is just not going to pay them any attention." | 3/69 | Danish tour | Denmark | In late March 1969, Earth set out on a 10-day tour of clubs in Denmark. Copenhagen was the first stop on their very first European tour. Recollections about this tour from Luke can be read in HOW BLACK WAS OUR SABBATH (pages #21-22). | |||
| 4/69 | Belgian tour | Belgium | The Gods, Bakerloo | Sabbath did a short stint in Belgium in early April. The Gods included Ken Hensley (later of Uriah Heep) and John Glascock (later of Jethro Tull). | ||
| 4/69 | Hotel Hirschen | Zurich | Switzerland | I’ve received one confirmation from someone named Urs telling me that Black Sabbath peformed two sets at Hotel Hirschen in either April ’69 (as Earth) OR April ’70. I’m trying to nail this one down. Paul Jarolimek investigated this alleged residency in Zurich and told Sabbathlive that he had found some information that the band was in and around Zurich during this period. This may be when the band performed at a brothel, which was mentioned in some older interviews with Ozzy. However, Michael Liddle was unable to turn up any such information in the Zurich papers regarding this show. |
