| 7/11/2002 | Chris Slenker | MOB RULES Demos aren't quite what they seem | There are two CD-R bootlegs of Dio’s last performance at Hoffman Estates, which claim to have unreleased demos from the MOB RULES sessions. The titles for these custom CD-R releases are HOFFMAN ESTATES-RONNIE’S LAST STAND and POPLAR CREEK ’82. The tracks in question are “Falling Off the Edge Of The World” and “Over And Over”. According to Chris Slenker, these are actually custom edits of the studio tracks, which are in fact different than what appears on the studio albums. Alternate versions of the MOB RULES album do exist, but none are currently in circulation. Most Sabbath demos have been proven to be bogus for the most part, since the band has been rather tight fisted about allowing such material to seep into the trading world. The most notable “real” Black Sabbath demos would be “When I Came Down”, the DEHUMANIZER Rehearsals (which aren’t actually demos, but contain unreleased original material) and the early mix of FORBIDDEN, which is really just what it says – an early mix! |

| 8/7/2002 | Ralf Schultz | Port Vale | It's amazing how much stuff Ralf manages to dig up! This appears to be an aborted pair up between Sabbath and Ozzy's Blizzard Of Oz. But in the end, Sabbath backed out. Why? Read my theories in the 1981 section of the All-Time Dates list. Oh, thanks to Ralf again for the original flyer for this show. | |

| 8/17/2002 | Jarkko Aaltonen | Helsinki gig | Jarkko brought up the interesting fact that Sabbath and AC/DC were scheduled to play here before the knife incident with Geezer and Malcolm. But it was Sabbath who cancelled this gig, while AC/DC played instead?! | |
| 8/17/2002 | Jarkko Aaltonen | Helsinki | Jarkko feels strongly that this show never happened. But this now brings into question where the Helsinki '90 audio is actually from?! | |

| 8/21/2002 | Gary Dean | Ngaruawahia | Gary feels that the alleged tape of this festival is actually an Irish Black Sabbath tribute band? Can you say BOGUS? | |
| 8/22/2002 | Jeff Lester | Portland | Confirmed gig and provided venue name. | |
| 8/22/2002 | Rob | NOTE: The picture galleries will be down for renovations for a short period. Please check back very soon to see new developments here! | ||

| 8/24/2002 | Michael J. Alexander | Nuremberg | Confirmation and a few memories about the gig | |
| 8/24/2002 | Tapio Keihanen | Helsinki | Tapio feels that Sabbath was never scheduled to play this gig in the first place. Visit my all-time dates list to read his and Jarkko's theories about this gig date. | |
| 8/25/2002 | Ralf Schultz | More updates and corrections from Ralf | ||
| 8/26/2002 | Gary Dean | Ngaruawahia | Fuggedaboutit! Gary has chosen to retract his previous challenges to the authenticity of this tape for now. But I will say that he has given me some really interesting ideas for upcoming bootleg releases. Are there any Sabbath tribute bands that want to recreate the Earth demos for me? I’ll pay you real good…. :)) | |
| 8/26/2002 | John Bella | Asbury Park | Corrected gig date (not 8/6) and wrote nice review of the show! | |
| 8/26/2002 | Ralf Schultz | More corrections from my German Sabbath sage, but less and less of them! He also sent along several ticket stubs and handbills from this period. | ||
| 8/26/2002 | Ralf Schultz | Lots of corrections, adjustments and scans! | ||
| 8/26/2002 | Gary Dean | London | Inspired by John M.'s tip, Gary Dean went ahead and compared all of the London 1/81 shows in order to find the true date of the London video claiming to be from 12/30/80. By using the process of elimination, Gary arrived at this date. Thanks for solving this mystery for us! | |
| 8/27/2002 | Gary Dean | Abilene | Gary has found a person who this show, but it feels it was NOT The Paramount Theater after all. | |
| 8/28/2002 | Gary Dean | Melbourne | A pair of REALLY great early live shots! Each appear to be from '72. One of them clearly confirms Gary's "left-staged Ozzy" theory! I'll post this one soon… | |
| 8/28/2002 | Rob | Note to all other contributors: I’ve received a lot of other great pictures and information over the past month. I’ve scarcely had time to get everything up, so please be patient! You will see your submissions here just as soon as I can invest more time into the site. But I will gradually add these piece by piece on a daily basis, so keep checking back! | ||
| 8/28/2002 | Gary Dean | Ngaruawahia | I received a nice surprise in the mail today - a CD of the New Zealand 1/7/73 show from Gary!! Dude, you rule!! He labeled it 'Excellent Sabbath Tribute Band', LOL! Can't wait to hear this one, but it'll have to wait 'til I'm finished watching this pirated copy of The Sopranos, Season 4, Episode 1! | |
| 8/28/2002 | Lars Bernstroem | Black Sabbath beer pics! Lars wanted to know whether I had any use for these and I told him to send me a whole case! Check 'em out at the bottom of the index page. | ||
| 8/28/2002 | Michael J. Alexander | Nuremberg | A few more memories about the show. Bring on the photos! | |
| 8/28/2002 | Gary Brines | Tacoma | Gary was nice enough to send me his recording of Sabbath's performance in Tacoma on the FORBIDDEN tour! It's a VG and clear audience tape. It reminded me of how much I liked the song "Can't Get Close To You". Did I just admit that? | |
| 8/28/2002 | Paul Jarolimek | Peace! I think it's worth mentioning that Paul and have ironed out our previous differences. I wish him luck with blacksabbath.org and hope that we can work together again in the future :) | ||
| 8/28/2002 | Rob | San Antonio | I found a ticket stub for this show up for auction on E-Bay. Problem is, almost all of the other evidence for this gig points to a 4/28 date at Helms Fair Arena. Was this a rescheduled gig? | |
| 8/29/2002 | Gary Brines | Tacoma | Gary Brines also composed his tale of the recording of this show. | |
| 8/30/2002 | David Beaton | Cal Jam I - Ontario | David posed some good questions about the existence of additional California Jam footage. See the videos section. | |
| 8/30/2002 | John Bella | Asbury Park | Received newspaper clipping from John today as promised, which sets the date for this show at 8/5! Thank you, John! | |

| 9/1/2002 | Mauricio | Joined the Sabbath Trading Registry. Welcome aboard, Mauricio! | ||
| 9/1/2002 | Rob | Added at least 5 previously unknown gigs to the SABOTAGE tour listing for August-September, 1975! These were all found in various '75 issues of Rolling Stone. | ||
| 9/1/2002 | Rob | West Lebanon, NY | During my dig at the Atlanta Central Library, I found an article about how Sabbath's show was to be the last concert at this venue. This was due to the violence of marauding motorcycle gangs and hooligans. | |
| 9/1/2002 | Robert Pappas | Lakeland | Helped me clear up a few mixed up dates on this leg of the Heaven and Hell tour. He also shared his own tale about his brother meeting the band after the show! | |
| 9/2/2002 | Jarkko Aaltonen | Many thanks to Jarkko for sending me a scan of the 45 sleeve for Axxis' "Kingdom Of The Night" single. This helped clear up many European dates for the HEADLESS CROSS tour! | ||
| 9/2/2002 | Jarkko Aaltonen | Joined the Sabbath Trading Registry | ||
| 9/2/2002 | Rob | After doing extensive research at the library, I was able to add many dates to their U.S. tour | ||
| 9/2/2002 | Rob | Added and corrected many gigs for the beginning of the SABBATH, BLOODY SABBATH tour | ||
| 9/3/2002 | Jim Hiott | Technical Ecstasy tour program | Jim contributed a couple of pics of this program for us to see! | |
| 9/3/2002 | Jim Hiott | Chicago and Milwaukee | Helped me add the Milwaukee date and confirmed an additional Chicago gig on the 22nd. Jim also had some memories of Ozzy's stage behavior to share with us here! | |
| 9/3/2002 | Michael Liddle | Manchester | Michael shared his tale about meeting Tony Martin at this gig, but it wasn't the sort of experience he anticipated…! | |
| 9/3/2002 | Thierry Baudens | Liverpool | Thierry astutely pointed out that the little guitar bit that Tony plays before "Iron Man" at this show (and several others) is in fact the theme for 'Laurel And Hardy'! | |
| 9/3/2002 | Raddion | New Haven | Confirmed gig and shared memories! | |
| 9/3/2002 | Rob | Revised comments on "Song For Jim" and "The Rebel" | ||
| 9/4/2002 | Mike Grivich | Vancouver | Shared a memory about Sabbath playing "Sweet Leaf" at this show | |
| 9/4/2002 | Shigeru Sato | Shigeru sent me an MP3 sample of "Computer God" from the DEHUMANIZER Demos and it's definitely the real deal. It does sound like a rehearsal session with just Iommi, Butler & Powell. Thanks Sato! | ||
| 9/4/2002 | John M. | Fillmore East, NYC | I think John M. has sniffed out another bogus show here for us: "I've checked out this show and in my opinion it is definitely a fake. It is yet another version of the Berlin/Keil '70 show. I've played them (the Berlin and Fillmore East shows) at the same time and they match exactly, including the alt lyrics and Ozzy's comments. Exactly. Got to be a fake." Well, I haven't heard this particular bootleg yet myself, but it does appear to be a half-assed copy of the Berlin 6/26/70 tape. This one starts in the middle of the show (during "Black Sabbath") and follows the same exact track order through "N.I.B.", the last track. The running time is about 28 minutes. Kiel 7/5/70 (which John mentions) is yet another bogus show that was spawned from the Berlin tape. It just makes me wonder how more of this fake Sabbath boots we're gonna turn up....?! Come on you hardcore Sabbath traders! Why didn't you figure you this one out? Is there anyone out there that thinks they could prove John wrong? If no one can come up with the goods, this show will be removed from the Known Audios list within the next few months. Bootleg CD's: Live At The Fillmore East [CD] |
|
| 9/4/2002 | Dave Sherrod | HEAVEN AND EARTH bootleg CD | Dave grabbed the cover art for this new bootleg from Bondage Music off E-bay. This 2-CD set features the Asbury Park show which (to quote Paul Jarolimek) "is now as common as armpit hair"! It also contains 3 instrumental tracks, alleging to be EARTH demos. Oh boy, here we go... Anyhow, the auction got up to $75 before EBAY pulled it for copyright infringement. Check out the cover art in the Cover Archive. | |
| 9/4/2002 | Jim Hiott | Chicago and Milwaukee gigs | Corrected dates for these shows by sending me the original ticket stubs. So, now we know that the tape that is being traded as Chicago 8/22/78 is misdated. The actual date of the Chicago show was 8/14. | |
| 9/4/2002 | Jim Hiott | Technical Ecstasy | Jim outdid himself this morning and took snapshots of the entire tour program for TECHNICAL ECSTASY! These will be made available soon in a special feature about the tour. | |
| 9/6/2002 | Jim Hiott | North American Tour program | Jim has shared some very nice scans of Sabbath's '78 North American tour program with us. Visit my SPECIAL FEATURES section to check this one out. Broadband users may want to grab the PDF version. But don't forget the password - sabbathlive.com | |
| 9/6/2002 | Ralf Schultz | Birmingham | Ralf sent scans of his ticket stubs from both nights and a handbill too! | |
| 9/6/2002 | John M. | Fillmore East, NY | John sent me 3 MP3 samples of tracks from the alleged Fillmore East '70 boot. This is definitely a BAD copy of the Paris '70 bootleg, so I'm removing this show from the known audios list immediately! I have also updated my Berlin 6/26/70 audio notes to refect this new discovery. Thanks to John for sniffing this one out! | |
| 9/6/2002 | John Bella | Madison Square Garden gigs | John confirmed the two shows that they played during these years, but dismissed a suggested 7/75 gig there. | |
| 9/6/2002 | Tapio Keihanen | Ticket Stubs | Tapio was generous enough to send me a zip file of various Sabbath related ticket stubs from the Dio years for this archive. Thank you so much, Tapio! | |
| 9/7/2002 | Brian | Kalamazoo | Helped me add this gig to the list, as well as the opening acts. | |
| 9/7/2002 | Rob | Jeff Fenholt Audition Tapes | Wrote extensive synopsis about these controversial demos in the Timeline and Audios section | |
| 9/7/2002 | Shigeru Sato | Osaka | Shigeru sent me his ticket stub and a memory from this show. Sabbath played and unexpected encore of "Children Of The Grave", even after the house lights had come up for a while! | |
| 9/7/2002 | Rob | Added more detailed information on known audios from 1980-85 | ||
| 9/7/2002 | Brian | Kalamazoo | Confirmed and added comments | |
| 9/7/2002 | Brian | Detroit | Corrected city - It was Detroit, not Kalamazoo | |
| 9/7/2002 | Brian | Kalamazoo | Provided venue information - it was Wings Stadium | |
| 9/7/2002 | Brian | Kalamazoo | Brian was nice enough to write in and point out this missing show. Apparently, Sabbath were given a bad review by the local paper! The opening acts were Climax Blues Band and Mothers Finest | |
| 9/7/2002 | Gary Dean | Ngaruawahia | Jim H. reminded me that I haven't said squat about this show since I received it. And this was after all the controversy I posted earlier. Wanna know what I think about it? Read my review in the Known Audios section. | |
| 9/7/2002 | Shigeru Sato | Osaka | Ticket Stub | |
| 9/7/2002 | Shigeru Sato | Nagoya | Ticket Stub and story about how Cozy played a drum solo because the crowd cheered him to do it. | |
| 9/7/2002 | Tim Wilson | Mississauga | Tim sent me an audience video of this show. Very close up audience film. | |
| 9/7/2002 | Tim Wilson | Montreal | Tim sent me a copy of the only known video with Ray Gillen singing. The video itself is a bit dark, but Ray sounds incredible on merely his 3rd performance with the band! | |
| 9/7/2002 | Shigeru Sato | Osaka | Ticket Stub | |
| 9/8/2002 | David Tedds | Birmingham | David wrote in to give us the earliest confirmations of Gary's "Ozzy Stage Left" theory. David saw Sabbath in Detroit on 3/22/72 and this was where Ozzy stood for that show. He also pointed out that the Volume 4 inside cover photos were almost definitely taken at Birmingham Town Hall on 1/24 or 1/25/72, which is the earliest sighting yet! It's also great to know where these pics came from! | |
| 9/8/2002 | Tim Wilson | Helped me add several missing gigs to my list, including Detroit '71 | ||
| 9/10/2002 | Sean Big Canoe | Paranoid / The Wizard | Sean sent me a scan of this rare 45-single | |
| 9/10/2002 | Rob | Site Navigation | Since the site is quickly expanding, I decided to move several sections to submenus. I know this will probably mess people up at first, but I think it's a change for the better. If any one has any comments or criticisms about the new site nativigation, let me know. | |
| 9/10/2002 | Harmut Kreckel | Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles | Corrected opening act information. It was Captain Beyond, NOT Iron Butterfly, who opened for Sabbath at this show. Harmut should know, since he runs the Unofficial (European) Captain Beyond web site. He also pointed out the fact that Iron Butterfly were not together at the time of this show. They had split up in May 1971. Two members of Captain Beyond (Lee Dorman and Larry "Rhino" Rheinhardt) are ex-Iron Butterfly members. Thanks again to Harmut for spotting this! | |
| 9/10/2002 | Harmut Kreckel | Mannheim | Confirmed that this gig was in Mannheim, not Ludwigshafen, as so many tour adverts state. | |
| 9/11/2002 | Rich Scofield | Utica | Sent ticket stub, added opening act info (it was Helix) and shared his memories of this show. | |
| 9/11/2002 | Tim Wilson | Confirmations and corrections to various dates | ||
| 9/11/2002 | Rich Scofield | Syracuse | Provided opening act info (it was Doc Holliday) and talked about Ronnie receiving the keys of the city for Cortland, NY. | |
| 9/11/2002 | Jim Collins | Kansas City | Shared some memories about this gig from the TECHNICAL ECSTASY tour | |
| 9/11/2002 | John M. | London | John had the following reply to Ake's skepticism: "I've got both 6-1 and 6-2-86 bootlegs. Ray Gillen clearly mentions "London" in both of them and they are definitely different shows. If this guy's question is that they may have played some other London venue on 6-1, then I can check the 6-1 show for clues....Ray was always very good about mentioning these details, thankfully!" |
|
| 9/11/2002 | D & L Tohill | Montreal | Added opening act info (it was Quiet Riot, who apparently "sucked" as well) and added some info about a riot taking place at this show. | |
| 9/11/2002 | D & L Tohill | Toronto | Corrected opening act (was Alvin Lee Band, not the Headpins). | |
| 9/11/2002 | Lars Bernstroem | Karlshamm | Lars sent me a handbill for this show. Thanks!! | |
| 9/11/2002 | Ryan McKinney | Portland | Confirmed show and shared story | |
| 9/11/2002 | Ake | London | Confirmed gig and opening act (Zeno), but doesn't remember Sabbath playing the night before at the Hammersmith?! | |
| 9/11/2002 | Rob | London | Found a handbill from 1970 that adds yet another show to our known gig list! This was actually a peace rally in London hosted by John Lennon! | |
| 9/12/2002 | Joe Siegler | Anaheim | New information about the band Russia replacing one of the other acts at this show. Does anyone know which band cancelled? | |
| 9/12/2002 | Rob | Staten Island | Added yet another previously unknown date! This show was from the beginning of the MASTER OF REALITY tour. The opening band was Sweat Hog. Confirmed by handbill. | |
| 9/12/2002 | Rob | Sacramento | Found an article from the Sacamento Bee about Iommi being picked up after this show for non-payment of child support?! | |
| 9/14/2002 | Rob | Miami | Someone has been selling "mint tickets" from this show on Ebay for months. With a "buy it now" price of $95, you'd have to be a moron to fall for this scam… | |
| 9/14/2002 | Jim Hiott | Dayton | Shared a few memories and added opening act info (Pantera) | |
| 9/14/2002 | Pär Pålsson | Cal Jam Video | Pär wrote in to tell us that his copy of Cal Jam '74 contains a rare extra track - "Killing Yourself To Live"! Unfortunately, his copy is quite poor, but at least we know it was filmed! | |
| 9/14/2002 | Jan Hoel | BLACK MASS bootleg | Jan Hoel asekd me the following question a while back about the BLACK MASS bootleg, but I do not have this one. Does anyone have the answer? "I was wondering why the newly issued Black Mass tracks have totally different running times than the old Beat Club versions. For instance, "Paranoid" has a very different running time, but the songs start and end with no talking, pauses etc, how come? different paced (speed)?" | |
| 9/14/2002 | Nils B. Svensson | Paris | Asked me to inspect an MP3 from a Paris '70 show, that turned out to be the 12-20-70 show. It occurred to me that this rendition of "Paranoid" is probably one of the best I've ever heard Sabbath do. Does anyone else have a favorite rendition of "Paranoid"? | |
| 9/14/2002 | Dominic Tohill | Toronto | A few more comments on this show. | |
| 9/16/2002 | Joe Siegler | Buffalo | Ticket Stub; Did Widowmaker play at this show? Most accounts list Skew Siskin and Exodus as the opening act, but this ticket names Dee Snider's Widowmaker. | |
| 9/16/2002 | Rob | Mar-Y-Sol | New write up for this one | |
| 9/16/2002 | Ake Moange | Stockholm | Ticket Stub | |
| 9/16/2002 | Joe Siegler | Various gigs | Joe sent me a sheet of various newspaper ads from 1970. This helped me add more background info on such gigs as the Hamburg Easter Festival and the Atomic Sunrise Festival. | |
| 9/16/2002 | Rob | Philadelphia | Confirmed gig with ticket stub | |
| 9/16/2002 | Joe Siegler | Buffalo | Ticket Stub | |
| 9/16/2002 | Ake Moange | Stockholm | Ticket Stub | |
| 9/16/2002 | Ake Moange | London | Special thanks to Ake for taking the time to scan several ticket stubs for us! | |
| 9/17/2002 | Pär Pålsson | Itinerary | Pär once again comes to the rescue in a big way! He found this wonderful tour itinerary on Big Bear stationery from Jim Simpson to Tony Iommi. It names all of Sabbath's planned gig dates for most of 1970! These look a lot like the same gig dates that Joe Siegler has had posted on black-sabbath.com. So, in other words, this backs up most of Joe's original gig dates for 1970! I still have yet to confirm these on my list, but I will very soon. Too many new updates today! | |
| 9/17/2002 | Joe Siegler | Sun City | Ticket Stub!! Didn't I tell you? Joe is on fire today. We now have an exact date and venue for one of Sabbath's infamous gigs at Sun City in South Africa. These were done under protest, due to the apartheid issues that were taking place in that country at the time. There were other gigs, but this is the only confirmed date so far. Bev Bevan played drums at this show too! | |
| 9/17/2002 | Joe Siegler and John Bella | Glassboro, NJ | I believe that I have a good bit of evidence that suggests that Sabbath’s 1st U.S. gig was NOT at The Spectrum in Philadelphia on this date. Joe Siegler has expressed his doubts in the past about Sabbath playing at The Spectrum on their 1st U.S. tour, being that it was such a large-scale arena. But Joe also feels that the show most likely did take place in Philadelphia proper. Today, I received an e-mail from John Bella, who felt that Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) could have been the true first U.S. gig. Cities are often “rounded off” to the nearest big city on gig lists, instead of naming the exact suburb. Glassboro, NJ is only 18 miles from Philadelphia, making it a very strong candidate for this theory. This rang a bell for me, since I had read in a 11/70 article by Bill McAllister that Glasborough [sic] State College was the first date of the tour. I didn’t know where “Glasborough” was, so I didn’t put two and two together, but I did begin to question the Philly date as being the 1st. But after John’s revelation today, I am seriously beginning to put more stock in this theory. |

| 9/17/2002 | Joe Siegler | ETERNAL IDOL Sessions | Wow, Joe is on a major roll today! I thought I had some good stuff today, but Mr. Siegler has really pulled it out with this information. Apparently, Joe has been talking with Eric Singer and Bob Daisley about their time in the band. These guys have provided us with new details about what happened during the recording sessions for THE ETERNAL IDOL. Check the Concert Dates & Timelines section for 1986 and the Known Audios section for more details! Much more to come…! | |
| 9/17/2002 | Pär Pålsson | Denver | Thanks to Pär, we now know of yet another TECHNICAL ECSTASY gig that has been missing on our Internet gig lists. He sent me a ticket stub for this Halloween show, proving also that Kansas City was definitely on 10/30 too! | |
| 9/17/2002 | Rodney Stegall | Abilene | Rodney was at this show and can prove that it happened at Taylor County Coliseum, not The Paramount Theater (as the bootlegs say). Read the timeline section to hear more of Rodney's story about "why" Sabbath couldn't have played at The Paramount. | |
| 9/17/2002 | John Bella | Long Pond, PA | John corrected my location for this one (not Pocono, PA) | |
| 9/18/2002 | Paul May | Dallas | Paul was generous enough to share some video captures from his very rare LIVE EVIL films. These will be posted on a special gallery page soon! | |
| 9/18/2002 | Richard Ba |
